ACCOMMODATIONS
OVERVIEW:
Excellent quality from one of the west coast’s best custom mega yacht builders. Founder’s John Knight & Hugo Carver, met as Freshmen roommates at Cal Maritime Academy in 1963. Together, they founded Knight & Carver Yacht Center in 1971 in National City, California, on San Diego Bay. Knight & Carver could work on mega-yachts to 200 feet and had also acquired a 400-ton-capacity dry dock in 2010, They were renowned as the premier West Coast custom yacht builder John Knight, had just launched his boat repair business along San Diego Bay, when he asked Mr. Carver to join him. Knight & Carver built more than 100 custom-made yachts and repaired more than 40,000. Through the years, the company hosted seven America’s Cup syndicates at its Mission Bay facility, including the Soviet Union’s vessel, which was later donated to the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Knight & Carver was first located on Hancock Street near the San Diego Sports Arena, Knight & Carver expanded to the Mission Bay Marina and later, in 1999, consolidated its new-build and repair operations to an 11-acre National City, Calif., bay-front facility that included a 100,000-square- foot enclosed structure and more than 1,400 feet of dock space. Later renamed Knight & Carver Maritime, after 40 years the luxury yacht firm closed in 2013, and its Port of San Diego lease was purchased by Marine Group Boat Works.
Prelude is one of the finest examples of a custom-built yacht fisherman that we have seen in this size category!
Built by the highly acclaimed Knight & Carver shipyard in San Diego. There was much thought and time placed into her build by her experienced owner and it shows.
A perfect example of this is the several weeks the owner took picking out the veneer of the Anagrae wood used throughout the boat. The thought given to her interior layout also shows the experience of an owner who has used his boats for family day excursions and long-distance cruises.
She has more fuel than other boats of her type, 4000 gallons giving her a range of 2500 miles at 12 knots. She has the ability however, to attain speeds of 18 knots when necessary. Prelude has made 10 trips to Alaska, 2 trips through the Panama Cannel to Northern Canada and many others all from her base in California. She has always been maintained with an open check book and it shows.
