Luxury superyachts for sale

Enter the apex of yachting

By IYBA, Paul Flannery

Welcome to Yachtrs’ exclusive portfolio of luxury superyachts. Generally classified as vessels measuring 30 meters (98 feet) and above, a superyacht is more than a vessel; it is a floating, fully crewed luxury estate.

Purchasing a superyacht is a highly complex acquisition. Whether you are upgrading from a smaller motor yacht or entering the superyacht market for the first time, browsing listings is just the beginning. Use the expert insights and guiding questions below to refine your search parameters before engaging a broker.

Essential questions to shape your search

Before falling in love with a specific profile or interior design, define the operational purpose of your future yacht:

  • What is your ultimate cruising profile? Are you looking to hop quickly between glamorous Mediterranean ports, or do you dream of trans-oceanic exploration? This dictates the hull type. A fast, semi-displacement fiberglass or aluminum yacht is perfect for coastal hopping, while a full-displacement steel hull offers the stability and fuel range necessary for crossing oceans.
  • Will the yacht operate privately or enter a charter program? If you plan to offset ownership costs by chartering the vessel, look for yachts built to commercial compliance (such as MCA or LY3 standards). Furthermore, charter clients prefer layouts with equally sized VIP cabins rather than one massive owner's suite and tiny guest cabins.
  • What are your crew expectations? A superyacht cannot function without a professional crew. When looking at listings, carefully examine the crew quarters. Happy crew equals a happy ship. Yachts that dedicate adequate space and privacy for the crew tend to retain top talent and are generally better maintained.

Pro tips for evaluating superyacht listings

To make a truly informed evaluation as you browse our inventory, keep these advanced technical considerations in mind:

  • Focus on gross tonnage (GT), not just length: Novice buyers often focus entirely on the length overall (LOA). However, gross tonnage (GT) is the true measure of a yacht's interior volume. A wide-beam 40-meter yacht with 499 GT will feel exponentially larger inside than a sleek 40-meter yacht with only 350 GT. Always check the GT in the listing specifications.
  • Beware of the 5-year class survey: Superyachts are built and maintained to strict standards set by classification societies (like Lloyd’s Register, ABS, or RINA). Every 5 years, the yacht must undergo a rigorous and expensive "special survey" at a shipyard. When looking at a used superyacht, always check when its next 5-year or 10-year survey is due, as this represents a significant upcoming capital expense and downtime.
  • Shallow draft for island hopping: If your dream involves cruising the Bahamas or the Caribbean, pay close attention to the yacht's draft. Many large, deep-draft vessels physically cannot enter certain iconic shallow anchorages.
