Wonder is a one of a kind, Cutter Rigged Wellington 44, built in 1980 and totally refit between 2017 and 2023. Her deck salon, modified full keel w/centerboard, and being rigged for single-handed sailing with all lines led to the cockpit, she can take you anywhere safely in style and comfort.


She is number 5 of 9 Wellington 44's built with classic lines and heavy weather structure. The spacious interior features 2 ensuite cabins to include showers and heads, a midship ventilated galley with 3 12V/110V refrigerator/freezers and generous storage, making her well-suited for liveaboard sailors and/or long-distance voyaging.


Tool and parts locker, 3 latching drawers and large storage area across from forward head.

Potential built-in or folding workbench in aft passageway.

Space reserved for watermaker in engine room.


New standing and running rigging, Garhauer blocks throughout, to include 3 ProFurl furlers and running back stays.

Mast, spreaders, and boom were stripped and painted; new sheaves, rewired, new LED spreader lights.

Custom 916 Stainless Steel rails; bow, stern and mast pulpits; davit, radar, solar arch and integrated swim platform with ladders from below waterline to swim platform and from swim platform to deck; dorades and stern towing bollards.


New Edson steering system including pedestal to replace chain driven tube amplified auto pilot.


Rebuilt rudder (skinned, rebuilt, barrier coated, painted) and new cutlass bearing and dripless packing seals. Centerboard rebuilt and new pendant, cable, and winch.


New Lewmar windlass, Vetus bow thruster with remote helm controls and a dedicated battery. New Victron inverter/charger/controller with remote indicators.


New electronics suite including Garmin 1243xsv GPS/Plotter, Garmin Radar, Garmin Auto Pilot head with Raymarine Ram, ICOM M803 SSB, ICOM M605 VHF with AIS, all NEMA 2000 integrated.


Complete rewiring to include: (2) New Blue Seas 110V panels and (2) New 12V Blue Seas breaker panels, new copper stranded wire, buss bars and connectors all to AYBA standards.


New Phasor 8kw genset with 3 cylinder Kubota, SS drip pan and remote controls. Sufficient to power all 110V needs including: 3 Dometic HVAC units, microwave, exhaust fans, water heater and 110V outlets.


New old stock 1990 Ford Nor'East 90 HP diesel engine with self lubricating fuel injection pump. First commissioned in 2023. Pickled and held by Great Lakes dealer. New Hurth transmission.

    General Overview

    The Wellington 44 is a 44-foot blue-water cruiser known for its robust construction, fiberglass foam-lined hull, and spacious center cockpit layout designed for comfortable offshore sailing and live-aboard living. Custom designed and built by Bill Wellington, featuring a modified full keel with centerboard for stability and upwind performance.  Draft of 4' 5" for shallow water access and 8' 6" with centerboard down for stability and performance.


    Key Features

    • Construction:
    • Fiberglass foam-lined hull providing excellent flotation, insulation, and a quiet ride. 
    • Centerboard:
    • A Modified full keel for excellent offshore performance and a fully rebuilt/refit retractable centerboard that reduces draft to 4' 5". Wonder's centerboard has been fully rebuilt with new hardware including new pendant, cable. The keel is incapsulated with no keel bolts.
    • Center Cockpit:
    • A hallmark feature, providing a well-protected space with ample seating, 3 cockpit drains routed to central drain exit in the centerboard well.
    • Spacious Interior:
    • Deck Salon, Hatteras style headliners, wall panels, and fixtures with easy access to mast electrical connections. Large aft master stateroom with ensuite head, forward master with ensuite head, all well ventilated with ample fans; natural and LED lighting.


    Wellington Walkthrough

    The Wellington 44 is a center-cockpit, blue-water cruiser with excellent stability, and spacious interior. It was designed by Bill Wellington and built by Wellington Boats Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida. A walkthrough reveals an open layout with distinct living spaces that are comfortable at anchor and functional while underway. 


    Exterior and cockpit

    • Deck and hull: The decks are wide and clear, providing safe passage to the bow and stern.
    • Aft deck: Offers a large, open area for lounging and includes a custom storage box, LED lighting, and S/S stern pulpit and rails for safety and security.
    • Cockpit: The center cockpit configuration allows for a large aft master cabin below. A new custom bimini and dodger covers the entire cockpit area with windows or screens and also has covers.
    • Sailing hardware: Cutter rigged with a Pro Furl roller furling mainsail and two Pro Furl roller furling headsails (genoa and staysail). The rigging is managed by 10 new self-tailing winches with all lines led aft to the cockpit. 


    Interior layout

    • Main salon: Entering the salon from the cockpit, the area is bright and airy, thanks to large extra thick (9/16" Lexan) fixed portlights. It features a large U-shaped dinette to port and a navigation station and pilot berth to starboard. Well crafted interior mahogany woodwork, including a refinished teak and holly sole.
    • Galley: The U-shaped galley is located aft of the dinette and is designed for safe and comfortable cooking while cruising. It includes a new gimbled Force 10 propane stove and oven, Two Engel top-loading refrigerator/freezers with third Norcold refrigerator/freezer across from galley. Double stainless steel sink with R/O, tank, and saltwater faucets.
    • Forward companionway: A short companionway leads to the ensuite guest head and forward cabin.
    • Forward cabin: This cabin has a V-berth with fans, LED lighting, HVAC controls and vent with storage drawers underneath and a hanging locker.
    • Forward head: A head (plumbed for a shower) is located just outside the forward cabin and also serves as the day head.
    • Aft companionway: A starboard companionway with hanging locker for foul weather gear and potential work bench leads from the salon aft toward the master stateroom.
    • Master stateroom: Occupying the boat's full beam, the spacious master cabin features an athwartships ventilated queen berth, ample storage lockers and drawers, a private ensuite head and separate walk-in shower stall.



    Refit Information - 2023

    Wonder is a very special and unique Wellington 44 - or any sailboat for that matter. Her current owner, 6'4" 280 lbs found the 44 to be very roomy with spacious headroom in the deck salon. Special care was taken by the Owner and his ABYC Certified Project Manager/Marine Surveyor, to leave no stone unturned in her refit. If something was found that was not RIGHT - it was repaired or replaced.


    Wonder is a wonder to see and not to be missed if you are looking for a fully found and prepared offshore vessel.
