Description
This Custom Tollycraft is a beautiful example of a well proportioned sedan. The 44' Ed Monk designed hull is reported to be one of the best riding hulls produced from Tollycraft. Combine the pedigree of the hull, the quality layup from a well respected builder, and the attention to detail that comes from a quality custom build and the result is a fine boat that checks a lot of boxes for her owners.
This design encompasses quality spaces throughout and will be great platform to enjoy extended time out on the water. The current owner has done a fantastic job in refreshing and modernizing the vessel through an impressive refit started in 2017. The interior upgrades keep the traditional qualities while making feel like a much newer boat. The new Corian counters throughout are one small example of the encompassing interior refit.
With her stylish lines and good looks, aptly named Cover Girl is an EY440 Sedan constructed in Victoria by EY Yachts in the years 1989 and 1990. EY Yachts started with a bare 44' hull and deck produced from the Tollycraft Corporation in Kelso Washington. The house and flybridge were built by EY Craftsmen in Victoria. EY Craftsmen also completed all interior furnishings. And installed all high quality mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components
EY built just four of these custom boats. This boat was the fourth one built and was first owned by the company's President. The first owners used the boat frequently including a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. EY Construction is still active in Victoria, but now specializes in commercial construction. Ernest Yakimovich, the President of EY Yachts is now retired and living in the Victoria area.
There is very little information from that period that has survived. There were four boats completed . Each was finished to the owner's specs. Main engines are the highly regarded Caterpillar 3208 TA's with 375 hp each. The final finishing in the salon, galley, heads and staterooms was completed to customer specifications.
The hull and decks were constructed at the Tollycraft plant in Kelso, Washington in December 1988. Hull and deck were transported to EY Yachts builders in Saanich BC where the boat was completed in 1989 and 1990. The boat was launched in the spring of 1990.
The federal registry has 1989 as the build year. The registry also advises that this boat was first registered on 1990-04-10.

General Decks:
The overall exterior deck layout works well with a main level cockpit close to the water, a open unobstructed foredeck, and a very comfortable flybridge. There are good sized side decks, handrails, nonskid decking, and steps allowing for easy transition from the cockpit to the bow, plenty of room to work around the windlass and other key areas. The gelcoat shines and really presents this boat well.
Cockpit:
The cockpit is easy to access from the swim platform through the transom door, or by side boarding to the raised steps. The cockpit is large enough to handle a couple chairs and small table perfect for a couple. It is also small enough to not use up too much of your accommodations, a nice balance. From the cockpit there is a stainless steel ladder with teak steps for Flybridge access, and the large sliding glass door to the cabin. The flybridge extends to create a partial hard top, which provides good rain protection to the cabin entry.
