With over 40 years in yacht sales, Reg Bates is a seasoned broker, valuation expert, and lifelong sailor. His passion for boating began in 1977, during a transformative sailing trip in the Bahamas, which led him to buy his first boat and pursue formal yachting studies.
Reg has spent decades guiding buyers and sellers, running a successful Sint Maarten / Saint Martin brokerage for 23 years. His deep market knowledge, industry connections, and financial expertise ensure clients get the best value, whether buying their dream yacht or selling for top dollar. His background in accounting, appraisals, and tax-advantaged yacht investments gives him a unique edge in yacht valuation and sales strategy.
A longtime St. Maarten resident, Reg is an active member of the local yachting scene, previously serving as Vice Race Director for the Heineken Regatta. He is also a liveaboard boater, keeping his Jefferson 43 motor yacht in pristine condition at Porto Cupecoy Marina. When he’s not working, he’s likely training for the St. Kitts to Nevis Channel swim, fine-tuning his boat, or enjoying happy hour at the yacht club.
His favorite boat? A Sparkman & Stephens 48, the yacht that launched his career. His favorite place? Saba, where he proposed to his fiancée.
