Description

Serenity is a Catalina Morgan 45 that has earned a reputation as one of the most spacious and comfortable center-cockpit cruising yachts ever built. Designed with long-range cruising and liveaboard comfort in mind, she combines the proven craftsmanship of Catalina Yachts with the timeless appeal of a true offshore cruiser.

Her center-cockpit design provides excellent visibility and security underway while creating a remarkably large owner's stateroom aft, a feature rarely found on yachts in this size range. The generous beam, spacious salon, and practical cruising layout make life aboard comfortable whether you're spending a weekend at anchor or embarking on an extended Caribbean adventure.

Under sail, Serenity benefits from the Catalina Morgan 45's reputation for stability, predictable handling, and a comfortable motion at sea. Her moderate-displacement hull, skeg-supported rudder, and solid construction inspire confidence when conditions become challenging, while her shallow draft allows access to many of the Caribbean's most desirable anchorages. Owners consistently praise these yachts for their ability to cover miles comfortably while providing the accommodations of a much larger vessel.

This particular Catalina Morgan 45 represents an outstanding opportunity for a sailor seeking exceptional value. Serenity offers the strong foundation of a proven cruising platform at a fraction of the cost of a comparable new yacht. With a little attention and updating, she has the potential to become an exceptional Caribbean cruiser capable of island hopping through the Virgin Islands, exploring the Grenadines, or embarking on extended adventures throughout the region.

For buyers willing to invest a bit of effort, opportunities like Serenity are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The hard work of acquiring a capable cruising yacht is already done; the spacious hull, proven design, and cruising pedigree are all here. Add your personal touches, complete a few upgrades, provision the lockers, and you'll be well on your way to creating unforgettable memories under sail.

Serenity is more than just a sailboat; she's an affordable gateway to the cruising lifestyle that so many sailors dream about. Resting on a dock at Compass Point Marina in the United States Virgin Islands, she awaits an offer and a new adventure.

    Accommodations

The Catalina Morgan 45 is renowned for her spacious center-cockpit design, offering exceptional liveaboard comfort and practical cruising accommodations. Designed with comfort, functionality, and extended cruising in mind, Serenity provides an abundance of living space for owners while maintaining excellent privacy for guests.

Descending from the secure center cockpit, the well-equipped U-shaped galley is immediately to starboard. Designed for offshore use, it features generous counter space, deep double sinks, abundant storage, refrigeration, and everything needed to prepare meals whether underway or anchored in a quiet Caribbean harbor. Opposite the galley to port is a dedicated forward-facing navigation station with ample room for charts, electronics, and passage planning.

Continuing forward, the main salon opens into a bright and inviting living area with comfortable seating to both port and starboard surrounding a large dining table. Numerous ports and hatches provide excellent natural light and ventilation, creating an airy atmosphere that feels much larger than many yachts in this size range. The salon serves as the social center of the boat, equally suited for entertaining guests, enjoying meals aboard, or relaxing after a day under sail.

Forward of the salon is the guest accommodation, featuring a spacious V-berth, ample storage, and convenient access to the forward head. This arrangement provides excellent privacy for visitors while keeping the main living space open and uncluttered.

Aft of the navigation station, a private passageway leads to one of the Catalina Morgan 45's most impressive features: the owner's stateroom. This full-beam aft cabin offers a large centerline queen berth, extensive hanging lockers, abundant storage, a vanity area, and a private ensuite head with a separate shower. The result is a true owner's suite rarely found aboard yachts of this vintage and size.

The Catalina Morgan 45 was purpose-built for comfortable long-distance cruising and liveaboard life. Her center-cockpit design creates a remarkably spacious aft cabin while maintaining a comfortable salon, functional galley, and excellent storage throughout. Whether you're planning weekends aboard, island hopping through the Virgin Islands, or setting off on an extended Caribbean adventure, this proven cruising yacht delivers the comfort, privacy, and practicality that sailors continue to appreciate more than three decades after her launch.

    Owner's Comments and Boat History

Serenity is a Catalina/Morgan 45 center-cockpit cruising sailboat built by Catalina Yachts in 1991 as a 1992 model-year vessel. She has a long Virgin Islands history and has been based in the St. Thomas area for much of her recent life.

One notable part of Serenity's history is that she reportedly rode out both Hurricanes Irma and Maria in her slip at Compass Point Marina without sustaining damage. Prior to Marcus Blackburn's ownership, Serenity reportedly spent approximately five years stored ashore at Nanny Cay Marina.

During their ownership, Serenity served as both a comfortable liveaboard home and a capable cruising sailboat. The owners lived aboard for a full year at Compass Point Marina and enjoyed day sailing around St. Thomas, visiting Christmas Cove, and spending weekends on a mooring at Water Island.

In 2024, Serenity also rode out Hurricane Ernesto in her slip at Compass Point Marina without damage.

The owners particularly appreciated her spacious center-cockpit layout, queen-size walkaround berth, bathtub in the aft head, comfortable salon, practical galley, and easy handling characteristics. They found her equally suited for full-time liveaboard life and local cruising throughout the Virgin Islands.

For buyers seeking an affordable way to enjoy life on the water while maintaining the ability to cruise throughout the Caribbean, Serenity offers a unique combination of comfort, practicality, and proven cruising capability.
