Flag Blue Awlgrip, New Cushions, Flexiteak in Cockpit, New Refrigeration, More

Description

Be sure to watch the video tour of this boat is linked within this listing! This may be the best value for an Oceanus 423 in the northeast market, but don't let the great asking price fool you, This clean-no-odor example has a lot of upgrades & updates including: Awlgrip Flag Blue Topsides with Metallic gold boot & cove stripes, Flexiteak throughout cockpit & swim platform, newer interior cushions in dark blue with white piping, New B&G electronics package including radar, autopilot & wind, good canvas package including dodger, bimini & connector, newer running rigging, new refridgeration, two flexible solar panels, cruising spinnaker with sock, plus more. Other features include windlass, in-mast furling mainsail & RF Genoa, inverter. So why is it priced so well? Like many of these sold in 2004, it does not have a bow thruster or air conditioning and we wanted to leave a buyer with some money in their pocket if they thought they might need this stuff.

The popular Beneteau 423 was "Boat of the Year" by Cruising World and is well regarded for its forward master suite suite that provides generous room, storage and an island style berth. An aft stateroom with a second head, a large salon and galley round out this comfortable cruiser's interior. It is a big 42 footer that also has excellent sailing characteristics.

Structural Upgrade

The Beneteau 423, as well as most modern cruising sailboats, have a solid glass hull so there is not a core to absorb water. The hull is reinforced internally with a large one-piece fiberglass "grid" that serves like frames & stringers. Whne bonded to the hull, a web of stiff & strong box structures are created. It would be very expensive to attach the grid to the inside of hull using fiberglass tabbing and resins, so Beneteau bonds the grid to the hull using an adhesive putty that becomes brittle when cured. When there is excessive flexing of the hull from a hard enough grounding, the weka link is this structural putty that breaks & crumbles causing a failure of the grid/hull joint. When this happens, the best action is to have a reputable fiberglass shop reattach the grid to the hull using fiberglass tabbing. The best shop I know of for this is Nick Sahin Fiberglass in Groton, CT.. They not only tab the outside of the grid, they also cut the tops off the grid's box structures to tab the insides, reattach the tops, then finish everything off with white gelcoat. This 423 had this work done in the winter of 23/24, as did another Beneteau 423 that was shipped up from the Carolinas because of Nick Sahins expertise with this work. I know the buyer of a new Beneteau 323 who had Nick Sahin tab in his grid right from new just to make the boat stiffer and more resilient in the event of future groundings. I have sold the boat used twice since then and the grid/hull connection and it has remained better than new. I have sold many other Beneteau sailbats that have had this work done and anyone who is more technical should understand they are better boats for it. Please call me to discuss in more detail if you have any questions.
