    Full Details

    Main Description

    2024 Tasks Completed:

    1) After removing three layers of older bottom paint by sanding down to hull, two coats of barrier paint and two coats of bottom paint (three coats along water line) were applied in March.

    2) Replaced all external zincs in March.

    2) Installed new Reverso 3 Manifold Oil Change System.

    3) Complete engine service in March: oil change, fuel filters changed, and replaced all internal zincs.  During the Loop, regular engine service was completed by mechanics at marinas visited.

    4) Serviced transmission in March: oil and filter change

    5) Serviced generator in March, oil change, fuel filter change.

    6) Serviced/re-certified halogen engine room fire depression system.

    7) Serviced air conditioners (two).

    2023 Tasks Completed:

    1) Two new house 8D 12v batteries installed, one port and one starboard. The boat has three 8D 12v batteries. Seller understands that the third 8D 12v battery was new in 2022.

    2) Stern thruster was removed, serviced and reinstalled.

    3) StarLink Flat High-Performance antenna for In-Motion Use installed. Works great.

    4) New 2,000W Pure Sine Wave inverter. The inverter in the boat gave out. Replaced with same brand and similar model (the original model was no longer available).

    5) Replaced Yanmar engine's heat exchanger. Original was leaking.

    6) Installed AIS with a new AIS/VHF Antenna (port side)

    7) Replaced shower drain pump with new Rule Industries Shower Drain Kit 800 GPH 12V

    8) Macerator pump was defective since vessel purchased, did not work and was removed. The associated thru-hull and pipe coming from the holding tank was capped.

    9) Replaced anchor rode with new Nylon 3 Strand 9/16 inch by 150 ft rode. The new rode was hand spliced to a 5/16 inch by 20 ft Galvanized Steel HT G4 Chain. This was added to the existing 100 ft chain, for a total of 120 ft of chain and 150 ft of rode (total 270 ft).

    10) New anchoring light over the cabin.

Some thoughts on what Seller likes about the Mainship 34 Hardtop trawler:

    1) The deep walkways around the sides of the boat have substantial 1 and 1?4 inch diameter stainless steel railings. This makes moving around the outside of the boat, even when underway, much safer. The walkway also makes docking, locking and rafting with other boats that much easier as you can work safely from either side of the boat.

    2) The full keel design, along with an associated sandshoe, provides much-welcome protection to the single engine's propeller. It is also noted that the single shaft has a line cutter.

    3) No flybridge makes for a lower profile boat. A lower profile allows the boat to pass under many bridges that boats with a fly bridge cannot, requiring them to request or wait for bridges to open. No flybridge also means no Isinglass. This clear plastic is highly susceptible to scratching and hazing over time. We have found that when compared to an enclosed pilot house, piloting from flybridges is less comfortable in cold, wet, rainy conditions and in rough seas. In addition, no flybridge eliminates the need for duplicate electronics.

    4) No woodwork on the outside. My experience is that wood exposed to the weather requires much more maintenance than fiberglass. The boat has quality stainless steel railings.

    5) The stern and bow thrusters make maneuvering in tight places, such as docking, locking or rafting with other boats, easier and much less stressful.

    6) We found having two VHF radios built into the helm handy in communications with other boats, marinas, lock masters and bridge lift operators while still monitoring the emergency frequency of VHF 16.

    7) Side door near the helm is a very nice feature, making docking, locking or rafting with other boats easier. In addition, the deluxe captain chair has arm rests, foot platform and is of high quality and very comfortable. The Admiral?s (i.e., the other spouse) seat also faces forward and has arm rests, foot platform, adjustable height and is comfortable. You spend a lot of time in these seats on the Loop.

    8) The double swinging doors provides easy access and air flow to the cabin from the cockpit.

    9) The relatively shallow draft of approximately 3.5 feet is forgiving on the Loop and kept me out of trouble.

    10)  The Starlink equioment installed on Blue Heron is the Flat High Performance Kit ($2,500). Most Starlink equipment that you see on boats is the Standard Kit ($599). The high-performance dish is designed for more demanding applications, has higher throughput capabilities, can see and talk to more satellites, and handles harsh weather better. Although boaters are using the Standard Kit, even while in-motion, it is not meant for in-motion use.

    Seller Disclosures:

    1) Moonroof is non-operational.

    2) We used the shower stall as storage; thus, while we have been on The Great Loop we have not used the shower or the associated hot water heater. We primarily stayed in marinas and had no need for the shower. The shower and hot water heater worked fine when we purchased the boat. Since we have not used these features for over a year, its current operational status is unknown.

    3) The new 2,000W Pure Sine Wave inverter, installed in 2023, works fine. However, while on internal house battery power through the inverter, we found it will trip if you use too many high voltage requiring appliances. For example, you cannot use the microwave and the toaster at the same time. While on shore power, this is not an issue.
