Description

Mysterium 2 is a highly upgraded 2000 Leopard 38 Owner's Version catamaran designed for comfortable, self-sufficient cruising. Known for its solid construction, excellent sailing performance, and exceptional visibility from the raised helm, the Leopard 38 remains one of the most respected cruising catamarans of its era.

This two-owner vessel has benefited from extensive upgrades focused on off-grid living and long-range cruising, including a complete Victron electrical refit with 1,200 watts of solar, an 800Ah LiFePO4 lithium battery bank, 3,000W inverter/charger, and a 40 GPH watermaker. Combined, these systems allow Mysterium 2 to operate independently from shore power and marina services for extended periods.

Powered by twin Westerbeke 44B diesel engines with less than 1,000 hours, Mysterium 2 features the simplicity and reliability of shaft-drive propulsion, a preferred configuration among many experienced cruisers. Additional highlights include a custom multifunction dinghy/solar arch, new trampoline, Doyle sails, Raymarine autopilot, Garmin chartplotters, Rocna anchor, and a complete Caribe dinghy package with Yamaha outboard.

Accommodations include three cabins, two heads, a spacious galley-up salon, and comfortable living spaces designed for extended time aboard. Whether you're seeking a capable Caribbean cruiser, a liveaboard platform, or an offshore adventure boat, Mysterium 2 offers an exceptional combination of proven design, modern upgrades, and cruising independence.

Currently located at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour and ready for her next owners' adventures.

    Boat History

"Mysterium2" is non-smoking owners version. This Leopard 38 is a 2 owner cat. It spent most of it's life in St Lucia until purchased from original owners wife.   After the husbands death cat was on a dock where it was used about two weeks year as a cabin.  After a refit  has cruised from St Vincent & the Grenadine's to Puerto Rico.  Last 2 season's sailing in the Spanish, US & British Virgin Islands.

    Owners Comments

"Visibility!!!  Visibility of both hulls and most importantly forward from the helms seat!  With the jib furled only about 3' above the trampoline gives full visibility vs a flybridge require 10 or more feet to have full visibility. Original davit was always in the way!  The arch bar when lowered was at knee high with lifting halyard at neck height making the nice wide athwartship deck unusable. Plus the dinghy motor had to be removed each time on a crossing because the dinghy was store on it's side blocking rear visibility.

    New multiple function arch!

    - Dinghy raises straight up & down, then pulled in, strapped down to set on rear deck & does NOT require removal of the outboard motor to be removed and full rear visibility!

    - 1,200 watt of solar mounted on arch with room for a couple small panels

    - a mount is provided for radar or Starling on arch

Victron system! Refit of house battery bank powering all our needs through solar, un-grading to full time 120v AC via inverter/charger (coffee maker, toaster, ice maker, power washer, power tools& water maker)

Transmission's have shaft drives with skegged propellers instead of sail drives! Cutlass bearings are $100 each, vs thousands to maintain let along the cost move the engines forward replace & move the engines back.

Water maker! The water maker plus the solar powered Victron system makes the vessel 'dock independent'. We have not been connected to shore power for over three years.  The water maker let's us fresh water flush the toilets, as well as the decks and anchor & anchor chain. We have a charcoal filter on a spread galley faucet, thus no more buying drinking water, fresh water for making ice cubes as needed & for cooking bathing.
