Shane Strause
First and foremost, I am a boater. I have had the privilege of spending my entire life boating and immersing myself in the lifestyle. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work in our amazing industry. I have over thirty-five years of experience in the marine industry in sales, service, marina management, and marina construction.
I am happily married to my wife Amy of 25 years, and we have two children Delaney, and Jack. All have been part of this amazing adventure in the boating industry.
As a child I spent all my summers on my grandparents’ boat on the Bohemia River on the eastern shore of Maryland. I started in the boating industry at 15 years old working for a Tracker Marine dealer in Reading PA. I joined the Navy at 17 and reported to bootcamp in August 1991. I flew for the Navy as a Naval Aircrewman for 8 plus years on the Lockheed P-3C Orion. I was an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator and was trained to track submarines using the acoustical gear inside the aircraft.
After the Navy I returned to the Chesapeake Bay and started selling yachts for a dealership on Kent Island Maryland. After a couple of years, I started my own yacht brokerage and new boat dealership on the Bohemia River on the eastern shore of Maryland. I sold boats until the economy decline in 2009, when I was able to transition to marina management.
Since then, I have managed privately owned, municipal, and publicly traded marinas from the Florida Keys to the mid-coast of Maine. I have also had the opportunity to be part of two new marina construction projects in the Florida Keys and Richmond Hill Georgia.
Fun fact: My wife and I have owned a little over 50 boats since we have been married. She says I might have a problem, I say I have a passion. We also lived aboard our 55’ Ocean Yacht from 2009 to 2012. We traveled from Long Island NY to the Florida Keys the fall and winter of 2009/2010, and lived aboard until we moved back to land in 2012.
