My interest in all things, boating and being on and around the marine environment began while growing up on a freshwater lake in New York state.
Learning seamanship on Lake Ontario taught me to respect the power and beauty of nature. Then a short time later I quickly learned about the joys of ocean voyaging along the New England coastline.
A graduate in marine science from the University of Rhode Island further continued my ocean related knowledge and experiences. I've often said if an activity that can be accomplished on the water I've tried it or want to. Boating along with aviation has become my lifelong pursuits. As a career, I was a captain at American Airlines operating a Boeing 737 airliner. The similarities between operating a vessel at sea and piloting a aircraft are uncanny. Both require a thorough understanding of the task and challenges ahead to operate safely and efficiently.
