Tony Smythe
Tony was born into a sailing family and began sailing at the age of six and was a charter member of the Ragnots, the HYC youth program. He has raced ever since throughout the years In his own one design boats including Blue Jay, Corinthian, Dragon, Soling, Etchells and Sonar. He attended TCU and graduated from the University of St. Thomas. While working in the commercial maritime industry he and his wife, Lynda, lived in New Orleans where he raced a 26ft Luders Class at Southern Yacht Club and won the Luders International Championship at Chicago YC. He raced in the 5.5 Meter Class in the US and abroad, winning the US Championship at TCYC and has finished on the podium in other national and world championships as crew and skipper at home and abroad. Tony served as Commodore of the Texas Corinthian and the Houston YCs and has chaired several national and international regattas. He is co-author of the TEXAS/LOUISIANA COASTAL CRUISING GUIDE. He has owned and cruised his Grand Banks 42 (2) extensively throughout the Bahamas and up and down the Eastern Seaboard as well as extensively along the Gulf Coast. He owned a Caliber 40 and sailed her throughout the Caribbean down to South America. Over the years he has raced/cruised roughly 100,000 miles on blue and brown waters.
