Let’s Go Solar: How and Why to Install Solar Panels on Your Boat

Sabre Yachts has been crafting luxury yachts in Maine since 1970. The company was founded by Roger Hewson, who began designing and building boats in the early 1970s while working for his family’s construction business in Montreal, Canada. Hewson’s first creations were a series of wide, blunt-nosed sailing scows, which he named based on their length and speed. After selling his construction company, Hewson relocated to Sebago Lake, Maine, where he built the first Sabre—a 28-foot ocean racer/cruiser. This model was unveiled at the 1971 Newport Boat Show and later earned a place in the American Sailboat Hall of Fame in 2003.
Sabre Yachts is renowned for its upscale, meticulously crafted boats, drawing its name from the long, sleek lines that characterize their designs. The company’s boat-building facilities are located in Raymond and Rockland, Maine, where around 350 employees construct approximately 50 boats per year. Sabre’s motor yachts are sold globally through a network of professional dealerships.
While Sabre originally made a name for itself with sailboats, the company has since shifted focus to motor yachts, ranging from 38 to 58 feet in length. Notable models include the Sabreline 36 “Fast Trawler,” introduced in 1989, and the Sabre 58, which features a Volvo/Garmin Glass Cockpit dual screen system as standard.
