Build Summary
JADE PANAMA is a custom designed, engineered, and custom constructed motor yacht. The original Vessel owners reportedly instructed the Naval Architect to design a sea-kindly hull form, intended for extended offshore cruising with a range capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean without refueling. Therefore, the structure was reportedly designed and engineered for the rigors of the open ocean, with structural engineering based upon American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Rules for Building and Classing Motor Pleasure Yachts (the vessel is, however, not Classed). An additional reported requirement of the vessel owners was that the vessel could be voyaged and handled by an able bodied couple, without additional crew. Resultingly, labor saving mechanical systems and equipment were incorporated into the design and construction, as well as redundancy in various critical systems.
JADE PANAMA is an exceptional vessel in every aspect of design, specification, construction, and outfitting. Commissioned by an experienced and meticulous yachtsman, she displays form and function throughout that is expertly crafted by an accomplished builder. Designed for world cruising, her systems were designed to be reliable, uncomplicated, and easily serviceable. JADE PANAMA’s specifications reveal that no expense was spared in building this vessel to the highest standards and with the finest materials and equipment available. This custom yacht is an exception in her class and will always be highly regarded for her quality of design and construction.

A varnished teak, coffee and dining table is raised and lowered hydraulically. Built-in bar area is forward with a refrigerator and grill with internal exhaust system. Overhead has lighting on dimmers and a security camera. Access up to the upper deck is via a built in stair to starboard. JADE PANAMA is also equipped with a hydraulically actuated passerelle (currently is in need of new pump).
Accommodations
The lower deck arrangement is entered from the main deck salon staircase from the starboard side. The detail and intricacy of the mahogany panels and handrail leading down to the lower deck are impressive. The stair lands in a large foyer and companionway that features a comfortable lounge settee forward to port and an owner's study with desk, book cases and built in file and storage cabinets. Forward and to starboard is an electronics utility room and just aft another utility room with a full laundry center and a custom walk-in freezer. Forward there is a spacious VIP stateroom with built-in storage cabinets, hanging locker, centerline queen berth and en suite head with shower. There is an overhead hatch for this stateroom to the foredeck. Just aft and to port is a guest stateroom with over and under single berths, an en suite head with shower. The master stateroom is accessed aft of the foyer and utilizes the full twenty foot beam of the vessel. The aft bulkhead at the head of the berth has book cases with keepers on each side and reading lamps and night stands. Two hanging lockers and a utility area along with drawer storage provide plenty of room for extended cruising. Further aft and accessed from either side are elegantly outfitted "his and hers" heads with teak and holly decking and separated by a large walk-in shower on centerline. Access to the engine room and out to the swim platform is through a watertight door and provides an alternate means of egress for the lower deck accommodations.
Flybridge & Upper Helm/Command Bridge
The flybridge and boat deck can be accessed from an interior stair from the galley area or from the aft deck. The flybridge has teak decking and is covered by a custom hard top with gusseted polished stainless steel supports that lowers with the hydraulic powered hinged mast. A full helm console is forward with a large, lighted, dry storage area beneath and the entire area protected by a clear windscreen raked forward in front and wrapping around the bulwarks aft to the boat deck. The windscreen is attached with polished stainless steel fixtures and a handrail along the top. A long "L" shaped cushioned settee is to port with storage beneath and a varnished teak cocktail table is located inboard. A wet bar with stainless steel sink, faucet, storage, weatherproof 110VAC outlet and freezer is to starboard. The flybridge helm station includes steering, engine controls, remote anchor windlass switch, bow and stern thruster control, air horn controls, and navigation electronics. Two comfortable Stidd helm chairs with folding foot rests and polished stainless steel bases provide comfortable seating with excellent visibility while underway. The boat deck has a large locker forward with a fresh water hose connection. Tender cradle aft holds a 2022 Highfield 460 15’ tender powered by a 90 horsepower Honda outboard. The davit is a Steelhead 2000 lb. capacity, low profile. The Davit is fully telescoping to allow for tender launch and retrieval from Port, Aft, and Starboard. Polished 316L stainless steel rails around the aft bulwarks are removable for tender launching aft and have gates to access outboard. Access stair to the lower aft deck has a raised coaming and sliding hatch for weather protection. Internal deck drains route water to waterline discharges. A compressed air outlet is located beneath the helm area to inflate tender sponsons and fenders.

Built for Purposeful Cruising
JADE PANAMA (originally named WATERMARK, and formerly CHILLIN) was built for an experienced yachting couple who have enjoyed their yacht traveling the world. Extensive planning was done for this yacht, and the owner was on site daily throughout the construction. The architect (Howard Apollonio) designed a sea kindly hull intended for extensive offshore cruising by a retired couple, neither of whom were mechanics nor technicians, so they could operate the vessel without crew. To help meet these requirements, labor saving mechanical systems and equipment were incorporated and redundancy was built into all critical systems. Systems crucial to basic vessel operation were kept simple to increase reliability and reduce maintenance.
Since the owners anticipated extended passages in the open sea, safety and seaworthiness were critical. Their intention to cruise in remote parts of the world dictated the selection of equipment, and all mechanical, electrical and plumbing components are readily available and serviceable worldwide. Maintenance of watertight integrity was important, as was the minimizing of motion in rough water.
JADE PANAMA is the result of a careful collaboration between the original owners, their architect, two professional surveyors, and a conscientious builder. Since its launching in July 2001 the original owners lived aboard full time and cruised from Vancouver BC through the Panama Canal, the North coast of South America, across the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, back across the Atlantic, throughout the Caribbean and Bahamas, the East Coast of the U.S. and the Canadian Maritimes. The vessel was sold and enjoyed by two owners up and down the East Coast from 2008 to 2015 when it was brought back to the PNW where it has been moored on Lake Washington ever since and continuously upgraded. Extensive records of all systems, architect drawings, system and electric drawings, modifications and upgrades are documented and maintained.
Naval Architect – Howard Apollonio
Routine stability checks by the architect confirmed that the vessel was designed with an abundant margin of safety. Other sea keeping considerations include: a motion-dampened hull form augmented by active stabilization: freeboard and bow sections that resist pitch and vertical acceleration. The fine bow with narrow chine forward keeps running resistance low. Engine intake and exhaust fans are all routed to the upper deck to ensure the engine room is watertight to outside factors.
Howard Apollonio is an Owner and Principal Design Engineer supervising and performing key functions including design engineering, client liaison, and testing for all aspects of engineered boat design.
Rayburn Custom Yachts
Rayburn was known for building some of the finest quality Custom vessels on the planet, primarily focused on building Super Yachts. This vessel was the smallest vessel built by Rayburn and incorporates many of the same components and quality you would expect from a much larger high end custom yacht. The design and build quality far exceed production and semi production vessels of similar sizes. Original invoices show this vessel was priced at $6.9M in 2001, reflecting the level of build quality and systems that were integrated into this vessel.
Performance & Range
Depending on load and sea conditions, JADE PANAMA as equipped is Capable of speeds 6 knots idle and achieving 15 knots at full RPM. With 2598 gallons of diesel fuel, at 9 knots cruising the range is approximately 2150 miles. At 8 knots, this is extended to over 2800 miles.
