Description

The Beneteau First 53 stands apart in many important and noticeable ways from other modern performance cruisers. Instead of hard chines, oversized arches, and other distracting features, you'll find clean unobstructed lines, wide open spaces, and a simplistic, yet elegant, design that begs you to cast off the lines and go sailing.

With a single point mainsheet, 4 electric winches, and all controls led back to twin carbon wheels, this boat is specifically designed for fast, shorthanded sailing. However, making 8 knots under main and genoa, you may find yourself gazing down from the high side, across the 5-meter beam, over what seems like an acre of open space, you quickly realize that sailing a yacht like this is probably more fun with family and friends. Perhaps you will invite them next time. Fortunately, there is plenty of room for everyone.

Belowdecks you'll find the owner’s cabin forward, benefitting from substantial amounts of natural light beaming through large portlights and a hatch above. The designer chose to optimize space by placing the en-suite head to starboard and a massive walk-in shower to port. Guest accommodations follow a conventional configuration, comprising two symmetrical double cabins aft, with a separate guest head and large walk-in shower to starboard.

The L-Shaped galley to port has ample storage and counter space to prepare meals with a gimbaled stove & oven. The dining area is just forward, which can easily convert from a 4-person to 6-person table. You won't find a traditional nav-desk anywhere, but in our modern age of tablets and phones, it would be a superfluous addition. After a long day of sailing with push-button controls and fingertip steering, you can relax with a beverage (from the home-sized fridge) on the plush L-Shaped couch to starboard, thinking about who you may, or may not, invite on the next outing.

"ZUMA" is a stunning example of the Beneteau First 53, and she has all of the right upgrades including a generator, air conditioning, bow thruster, electric winches and more. The V-boom, self-tacking jib, and twin rudders make her remarkably easy to sail. Her full teak decks, dark blue hull, and black spars result in a stunning overall package.
