Description

Windsong is a classic 1984 Morgan Moorings 50, built with hand-laid fiberglass and known for her solid, robust construction. With a 7’ draft and long waterline, she performs exceptionally well in Caribbean conditions. In fact, the current owner has successfully raced Windsong in several of the more relaxed regattas around St John and the USVI in recent years.

The owner acquired the vessel shortly after Hurricane Irma, and a full account of any damage at that time is not available. It is understood that she was knocked off her stands. While boats built to this standard are notably strong, a survey is recommended for any prospective buyer. The current owner has completed numerous recent updates; however, health concerns are prompting the sale.

The forward centerline master features a queen berth with private head access, while a second cabin off the salon provides space for guests or crew. An additional head is located amidships. Interior systems include a large-capacity Adler Barbour refrigeration and freezer configuration, a Seaward Princess 3-burner propane stove and oven, pressurized fresh water (no water heater), and a SeaGull IV water filter.

Deck gear and sail handling are set up for shorthanded sailing, featuring a Profurl 430 headsail furler, full-batten Quantum mainsail with stack pack, strong Lewmar winches, and a Harken traveler. Safety and convenience upgrades include a Maxwell 3500 windlass (2023), extensive ground tackle with 300 feet of chain plus backup, and a USCG safety package.

    Owners Comments and Boat History

Full history of this 1984 Moorings Morgan 50 is not entirely known; however, Windsong has been actively sailing throughout the BVI, USVI, and Caribbean for many years. The current owner acquired the vessel after Hurricane Irma, though the full details of how she fared in the storm are not available. It is known that she fell from her jackstands, but the rig remained intact. No surveys, to our knowledge, were conducted following the storm.

Her solid glass hull appears to have held up well, but a prudent buyer is advised to conduct a full survey to assess any potential latent damage. The current owner stored the boat each summer at Nanny Cay and employed a local yacht management firm for ongoing care. This broker managed that firm for several years during Windsong’s maintenance period.

Over the past five years, the owner has invested significantly in new equipment and system upgrades. While no vessel is without faults, Windsong is capable of sailing and cruising in her current condition. As with any 40+ year-old vessel, she would benefit from continued care and improvements by her next owner.
