Description
Adelie II is a 1991 Beneteau Oceanis 440, a model well known among cruising sailors for combining practical sailing performance with a comfortable live-aboard interior. Designed by Bruce Farr and built by Beneteau, the Oceanis 440 became one of the more popular cruising yachts of the early Oceanis line thanks to its balanced sailing characteristics, generous cockpit, and spacious accommodations.
The Oceanis 440 is appreciated for its straightforward sailing setup and comfortable deck layout. Wide side decks and a large cockpit make moving around the boat easy and secure, while sail handling is arranged so the boat can be managed by a small crew. Adelie II is equipped with features such as an anchor windlass, dodger and bimini for cockpit protection, dinghy davits, and furling systems for the sails that simplify sail handling underway.
Inside, the Oceanis design emphasizes space and functionality. Adelie II follows the familiar layout of this model with multiple cabins and heads, providing good accommodation for cruising with family or guests. The salon offers comfortable seating and a practical dining space, while the galley is set up for extended cruising with refrigeration, freezer, and a Force 10 propane stove and oven. Additional onboard equipment includes an Isotemp hot water heater, pressurized freshwater system, and a watermaker.
The vessel is powered by a Perkins diesel engine and includes a range of cruising equipment such as solar panels, Victron battery monitoring and charging equipment, autopilot, chartplotter, and VHF communications. These features provide a solid starting point for a capable cruising platform.
It is important for prospective buyers to understand that Adelie II should be considered a project vessel. While the boat has a lot to offer and includes a number of useful cruising features, she will likely benefit from maintenance, updating, and general recommissioning. For someone looking for a turn-key yacht, this may not be the right fit. However, for a buyer willing to invest time and effort, the boat represents an opportunity to acquire a well-regarded cruising design and bring it back to her full potential.
The equipment onboard has not been tested by the broker, and buyers should assume that systems and equipment may require servicing, repair, or replacement. As with any vessel of this age, a thorough inspection and survey are strongly recommended.
For the right buyer—particularly someone comfortable with improving and updating an older cruising yacht—Adelie II presents a solid foundation and a respected cruising design with plenty of potential.

Owners Comments and Boat History
Adelie II has enjoyed an extensive and adventurous cruising history, reflecting her capability as a true offshore passage maker. Since being purchased by the current owner in 2017, she has traveled widely throughout both North America and the Caribbean.
In 2018, she departed Ontario, Canada, transiting down the St. Lawrence River and continuing south to Florida before making her way into the Caribbean. From there, she cruised extensively through the West Indies, including Grenada, St. Lucia, Martinique, the British Virgin Islands, St. Croix, Puerto Rico, and Florida. Her track record demonstrates that she is not simply a dockside vessel, but a boat that has proven herself across open water and island passages.
Adelie II comes equipped with a dinghy and outboard motor, the latter being nearly new and only lightly used. Additional recent updates include a brand new cockpit awning and a new dinghy lift system, enhancing both comfort at anchor and ease of handling.
The owner returned to Canada in June of last year, and since that time the vessel has been in storage. She now presents an opportunity for the next owner to recommission and continue the cruising lifestyle she was built and proven to deliver.
