Excess 14 Catamaran World Boat Show Tour
This demo boat is completing her World Boat Show Tour, headlining top boat shows such as Cannes, Genoa, Barcelona, Miami, and St. Petersburg. Code-named Rocket, this option-packed vessel was built with great attention to detail under the watchful eyes of the entire Excess Team. Thanks to her tour, over 200 boats have been sold to catamaran sailors just like you all around the world!
Rocket is available for private showing on Pier 4 of the Watergate Yachting Center in Clear Lake, Texas.
The Balance of Comfort & Sailing
The Excess 14 design seeks an unparalleled balance between the comforts of a cruising catamaran and that exhilarating feeling of actually sailing that we all know and love.
Working with top naval architects such as VPLP Design, the brand accomplished this goal via a sleek, single-level design with steering on the same level as the cockpit. The replacement of a flybridge with dual aft helms allows for reduced windage, a low center of gravity, and a maximized sail area (135 m2 upwind). For further horsepower, this boat features a composite bowsprit perfect for tacking a large downwind sail.
The helm station design also addresses two of flybridge catamaran sailors' top concerns, 1) the feeling of being removed from the crew and 2) having zero rudder feedback in the wheel due to the hydraulic systems necessary for flybridge steering.
On the wheel of the Excess 14, in contrast, you have a complete connection to both the crew (all on the same level as you) and the sea (via lightweight, Dyneema steering cables). The lines of sight are preferred by many thanks to the ability to see all crew (especially boat dogs and young children) as well as the sails and any upcoming markers. The option to switch back and forth between helms is tremendously helpful when navigating, docking, or picking up mooring balls.
Innovative Architecture Maximizing Sailing Without The Need For Daggerboards
Thanks to Group Beneteau's collaboration with VPLP and a deep understanding of ocean racing, the design team leveraged cutting-edge software to produce a hull designed to optimize your sail area to displacement ratio. Taking this even further is a bridge deck clearance designed for smooth passage through the water, and asymmetrical hulls designed to reduce interference drag. This is also a feature unique to Excess on the production catamaran market.
All of the Cruising Accommodations You (or your partner) Expects
Despite her sporty looks, the Excess 14 is very much a cruising catamaran. The interior is built to maximize volume and headroom in a layout that actually makes sense for how you'll use the boat.
Walking into the salon, you're greeted by panoramic windows and a bright, contemporary interior. Find an enormous amount of refrigeration and freezing in the upgraded pack. A stove-top, deluxe oven, double stainless sink, and convenient overhead storage complete the full L-shaped galley to port. On either side of the salon, you'll find companionways into the port and starboard hulls.
The owner's version layout features a versatile "walk-in closet" in the starboard-side owner's stateroom. This walk-in closet features 2 optional berths that can drop down for occasional guests. This innovation made huge waves in the owner-centric catamaran market as the first of its kind, as did the lower-than-you-expect berth height, which makes getting in and out of bed very natural and easy.
This catamaran is the outcome of innovative architecture, and unbiased research work seeking 'out of the box' solutions. The Excess 14 is designed around a layout never seen before on the market, with a balance of sailing sensations yet everything you'd expect from a cruising catamaran.
