Description
The Bavaria 44 represents the sweet spot of the J&J Design era, a period celebrated for producing hulls with a perfect balance of volume and performance. Originally launched as a flagship for the private cruiser market, the 44 is distinguished by its powerful sail plan and a 6.4' lead keel that provides exceptional stability in a blow. Unlike many modern lightweight cruisers, the 2003 model carries a reassuring heft, allowing it to slice through a chop rather than bouncing over it. It’s a blue-water capable hull dressed as a comfortable Caribbean cruiser.
Step below deck, and the Bavaria 44 reveals why it remains a favorite for families and charterers alike. The interior is defined by rich mahogany joinery in excellent condition and a layout that utilizes every inch of its 45'8" length. With a spacious three-cabin configuration, large U-shapped settee and a generous galley to port, it offers a level of livability that rivals much larger yachts.
'PA YA' has never been chartered and remains an excellent example of this model thanks to the owner's meticulous upkeep and maintenance since his purchase in 2019.

Accommodation
PAYA is easily boarded from a dinghy or dock via the walkthrough transom and removable cockpit bench seat. From here, you’ll find twin helm stations and, just forward, the spacious cockpit with a folding-leaf table, creating the perfect setting for sunset cocktails or dinner at anchor.
Stepping below through the companionway, the rich mahogany interior and generous salon immediately stand out. The gently sloped companionway stairs provide comfortable and secure access below deck.
PAYA features a desirable three-cabin owner’s layout. Two mirror-image double cabins are located aft, each offering deep hull-side shelving and split lockers with hanging storage. Opening hatches from the cockpit provide excellent natural ventilation throughout.
Moving forward, the wet head is located to port and includes a manual Jabsco head, vanity, and shower. Adjacent is the forward-facing navigation station, while the large U-shaped settee and additional bench seating surround the salon dining table with comfortable seating for 8+. Abundant storage is found throughout the salon, both along the hull sides and beneath the settees.
The galley is arranged in a linear layout along the port side, just forward of the head. Its expansive work surface runs the full length of the galley and includes a large top-opening refrigerator, double stainless-steel sinks, and a gimbaled stove with an integrated cover to maximize countertop space when not in use.
The spacious forward master cabin features an island berth with excellent ventilation and abundant storage throughout. Beautiful mahogany cabinetry lines both hull sides, complemented by a split hanging locker to port and a private ensuite head to starboard.

Owners Comments and Boat History
I was lucky enough to become the fourth owner of this boat while she was still in great condition. What made me feel even better about buying her was that I knew, either firsthand or secondhand, the previous owners who had taken really good care of her and invested in major improvements, as well as many of the people who had worked on her over the years.
The first owner did a great job ordering her with a performance Selden mast and boom, along with batten cars. A few years later, the second owner replaced both the sails and the motor with a new saildrive in 2015. The third owner, during the pandemic, replaced all the standing rigging, all the canvas, cushions, and electronics.
The boat already looked great, but then we took her out for a sail and suddenly we were flying! For the last 4 plus years we have been taking care of her and sailing regularly between Puerto Rico and The Virgins. She is a well-built, fast, and comfortable boat that is ready for a new owner to care for her the way she is used to and take her on many new adventures. DO IT!!
