Description

2007 Southerly 42 RST featuring three cabins and two heads, a variable draft swing keel, twin rudders/wheels, a raised salon and nav, and a large aft cabin. The Southerly 42 RST was designed by Rob Humphreys and built to cross oceans by Northshore Yachts in England. It boasts an impressive sail plan, for powerful windward performance and a robust swing keel, giving the freedom and versatility to sail in almost any waters. With the keel lowered, the variable draft of 8' 11" makes for fast, serious blue water cruising. The keel can be raised at the touch of a button to give a shallow draft of just 2' 9" - perfect for shallow water sailing and exploring coastlines.

FriendShip is in the water at St. Johns Yacht Harbor on Johns Island, SC.

    Full Details

    Interior

Easy companionway steps lead you to a large open salon area. The deck salon windows provide panoramic views and give you an instant feeling of space. Partially reflective tinted glass provides privacy while also deflecting the sun's rays. Concertina blinds cover the deck salon windows for additional shade and privacy. With three cabins, you can sleep eight people very comfortably. Cherry interior joinery. Teak and holly floors.

    Main Salon:

The large raised salon is spacious and has generous seating for 6-8 people. The salon table folds to provide a smaller coffee table or expands for a large dining table. The large salon windows offer great visibility and allow you to see what is happening around you. This area is very comfortable either underway or when entertaining. With just the push of a button, the table lowers and converts the seating area to a large double berth. Lots of storage

is found under the seating and outboard in lockers.

    Nav:

The chart table is to starboard and is raised to take advantage of the panoramic views. For additional details, see "Navigation and Electronics" below.

    Galley:

The galley is amidships to starboard in a lower position for the greatest comfort at sea. For further details, see "Galley"

    below.

    Heads:

There are two heads. One is located on the starboard side forward of the galley, and the other is ensuite to Aft Cabin. A seat covers the head, allowing you to sit while showering. Both heads have an extractor fan. It is easy to keep clean and maintain with minimal wood in the head. Good storage is found under the sink and in outboard cupboards and lockers. Some additional head features include a manual Jabsco head, a large sink, a shower sump pump, hot and cold pressurized water with a mixer tap, and a waste tank gauge.

    Aft Cabin:

The aft cabin features a large centerline berth and seating on either side. The berth is split for lee cloths. There are three opening ports, an opening hatch, and two fixed hull ports. There is also a large hanging locker, outboard lockers, and shelves to store clothes well.

    Forward Cabin:

The forward cabin has a long V-berth with a filler. An additional third berth over the starboard side can also be used for easy-access storage. There is an overhead hatch and two fixed hull ports. To port is a large locker with shelves and a long outboard shelf. There is a large storage area beneath the berth.

    Third Cabin:

The third cabin is on the port side opposite the forward head. It has two single bunks and storage cabinets/lockers.

    Hull, Deck and Equipment

    Hull:

Hand laid up heavy-duty GRP molding, incorporating multi-axial and unidirectional reinforcements for strength and impact resistance. The hull is cored above the water line for insulation and weight reduction and is made of solid glass below. Thickness increases progressively toward the keel area. The keel box is an integral part of the hull layup. A substantial skeg is fitted on the centerline to protect the propeller and rudders when the yacht is dried out.

    Swing Keel:

The fixed ballast is an iron casting that acts as a grounding plate and transverse stiffening for the keel unit. It is fitted into a recess in the hull in the area of the keel box with stainless steel bolts. The aerofoil Swing Keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless steel pivot at the leading edge. The Swing Keel is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram powered by an electrically driven pump with a hand-operated backup. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance.

    Deck:

Teak decks. Raised teak-capped bulwarks provide extra comfort and safety. Forward is a stainless steel stem head fitting for the bow roller, removable bow sprit, and an electric windlass.
