CONSTRUCTION
This 1986 Wilbur 38 is a well-built fiberglass hull produced by the Lee Wilbur Company in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Her deck assembly is fiberglass with a balsa core. Access to the engine room and systems is through a large hatch in the salon sole, and access to steering, shafts, and rudders is through hatches in the cockpit sole.
ENGINES
Two original 1987 engines are Volvo TAMD60C, 300 HP, each with 3100 hours. Twin Disc MC506-1 transmissions. Direct drive. Fresh water cooled via heat exchangers. Automatic oil-change pump system. Racor filters. Sea water strainers. Stainless steel shafts swinging 3-blade bronze propellers with cutters. The hatches to the spacious engine room are in the center salon sole and outboard of the port navigator seat. Overhead lighting and a/c outlets.

ELECTRICAL
Custom electrical panel with battery switches within easy access from the salon helm. The generator controls are also on the panel with a battery meter. 50 amp. 300 Quad battery charger. Navigation lights, good interior lighting in salon, cabin, and engine room. Westerbeke generator with 100 amp 12v starter battery. CruiseAir system to provide air conditioning and heat. Several A/C outlets throughout salon. Shore Power receptacle and cord.
ACCOMMODATIONS
In the forward cabin, aft of the anchor locker, is the principle stateroom with 6'6" long berths, port and starboard, light green upholstered cushions. Shelves outboard of both berths with reading lights mounted on the aft bulkhead. In the aft of the stateroom is an enclosed large hanging locker to starboard, and to port is a built-in bureau with a mirror mounted above the drawers below. Shelves are also below both berths. All woodwork is custom-made varnished mahogany, including the sheathing outboard and the sole below.. Overhead is an opening hatch. An electric fan is mounted on the forward bulkhead, and the CruiseAir A/C vent is mounted centerline below the berths. A very accommodating, bright, and well-designed stateroom.
Next aft to port is the enclosed head, built with a small-tile floor throughout and a separate shower with a glass folding door. The sink offers hot and cold pressure water. The flush is a Jabsco marine toilet. Fine mahogany woodwork, opening ports and ample storage make for a very well-designed and attractive space.
Aft to starboard is the guest cabin with two 6'6" long single bunk berths with green upholstered cushions. Forward in the cabin is a large hanging locker and cushioned seat. A mirror is on the aft bulkhead and a counter with cupboard below. Two opening port lights and an overhead opening hatch provide good air flow.
The cabin sole is teak & holly, and the headroom is 6'6" with two opening ports and a large overhead hatch with a screen for good light and ventilation.
Entering the salon from the cockpit is a custom swing mahogany glass door with a screen door. The large wrap-around settee to starboard offers seating for 4-5 people with green cushions. The custom table can be stowed below. The U-shaped galley is to port and is a fully functioning space with two large stainless steel sinks, 3-burner electric Princess stove and oven with an exhaust vent, and customized dish/glass cabinets. A custom Wilbur-designed refrigerated locker is located beneath fwd counter with access from the top and outer door. Green Formica counter, opening window, and several AC outlets are throughout galley and salon.
The custom and cushioned starboard helm seat and port navigator seat have storage lockers below. The helm features a large destroyer-style wheel, stainless steel engine controls, gauges, and electronics. The three forward windows have electric wipers, and the center window is opening. Large sliding aft side windows port and starboard. The a/c controls and a large flat surface are forward of the navigator seat. Outboard of the navigator seat is access to the engine room, along with a center salon sole hatch. A very bright, light, and spacious salon with 6'9" headroom, and a varnished teak & holly sole.
Stepping into the aft 5' x 11' non-skid cockpit are two port lockers, currently used for supplies and a clothes washer; and two starboard lockers for trash and lines. The custom stern seat features a back rest and seat cushions with two large lockers below. The shore power connections are under the 30" high gunnel. The lazarette stores deck supplies beneath the sole, and the collapsible bimini top offers shade.
Up the stainless steel ladder with teak treds on the starboard side to the flybridge. The upper helm is to starboard with repeater engine panels, trim tab controls, GPS and a Ritchie compass. There is seating for eight. The radar mast is aft along with the 4-man life raft.
The foredeck features a teak bow pulpit with a stainless steel railing from the helm station around to the navigator seat area. Teak handrails port and starboard along the salon roof and cabin top. The plow anchor is managed by a Muir windlass with controls at the bow, upper and lower helms with 30 feet of chain on 100 feet of nylon rode. A spare Danforth anchor is in the cockpit lazarette.
