The Hunter 38 represents the culmination of the design dream of Hunter’s chief of engineering, Glenn Henderson. His goal was to design a 38-foot cruiser that was exceptionally comfortable yet offered outstanding performance and easy handling- and he nailed it. Glenn and his team bring you a design that performs brilliantly in every respect. It was introduced in 2005 and immediately won the Cruising World “Boat of the Year” award for her class “Best Production Cruisers under 40’.
The traveler arch put the traveler controls within easy reach of the helm and by repositioning the mainsheet car close to the boom, substantially reduces the load on it. The arch is also incorporated into the dual stern rail seats- often called “the best seats in the house”. The fractional sail plan delivers power without perspiration to the stable and easily driven hull shape.
With her wide beam and strategic placement of the mast compression post, the open saloon has immense proportions for a 38-foot yacht. The forward facing nav station and expansive galley loaded with storage space distinguish the Hunter 38 as a boat without compromise on interior comforts.

Accommodations
Forward stateroom: Starting forward, the spacious 7' long berth can accommodate the tallest of guests. There is a storage locker beneath the berth and aft of the berth on either side tall cedar lined lockers hanging on starboard and shelf storage on port. Above those and running forward along both hull sides are fiddled shelves. The hull sides are covered in a padded material for sleeping comfort. Two overhead lights, a pair of reading lights and an overhead hatch provide plenty of lighting and ventilation. As with all the hatches on WINDEPENDENCE, there is an OceanAir combination screen/shade unit on the hatch. A raised panel door provides privacy for this cabin.
Saloon: Moving aft into the saloon and on starboard there is a large U-shaped dinette. Beneath the cushions hinged covers lift to access a tremendous amount of storage; behind the seat cushions along the hullside there Is more storage space. Above and behind that there is a fiddled shelf, with a locker on either end. Above the lockers is another fiddled shelf, which runs continuously from the forward bulkhead back through the galley. The dinette table has a leaf that can be installed and drops down to form an 82" x 58" x 42" berth.
On port the straight settee can serve as a 75" long single berth if needed. There is storage beneath and behind the cushions here as well. A fiddled shelf and single locker forward are above and behind the settee. As on starboard, there is a fiddled shelf that runs above the locker from the forward bulkhead back through the nav station. There are continuous handholds lining each hullside for safe movement through the cabin, while overhead you will find another ingenious Hunter innovation. Air ducts are concealed within the overhead, with a total of ten vents along either side of the boat that can be opened and directed in 360 degrees, so you can select exactly how much air flow you want- and where.
The space is very bright and spacious, with 6'6" headroom, two windshield ports with covers, four fixed side lights and two overhead hatches with screens/shades.
Nav station: Forward facing, the nav is located on the port side aft of the settee. The seat is curved for comfortable seating on any tack while under way. Beneath the seat is access to the battery charger, battery selector switches and assorted other electrical connections. Outboard next to the seat is a locker, while above that the 120V and 12v electrical panels are right at hand. The lift-up lid on the nav table provides access to storage for charts (also known on most boats as "the junk drawer", right?). There is a nav pod with a wooden face and stainless grab rail above the tabletop, providing plenty of space for the installation of electronics.
Galley: Located on starboard, the L-shaped galley is big enough to make any cook feel at home. With 6' 4" to 6'6" headroom, there's plenty of maneuvering space. The countertops are all Corian with tall cherry finish fiddles, so good handholds are all around you. Facing forward, the polished stainless double sink has a large prep surface to the left of It and more counter space to the right, with a Corian lift-up lid covering the waste bin. There is plenty of storage beneath the waste bin for less-often used items. Beneath the counter is an upright refrigerator/freezer to the left and shelving space with double doors beneath the sink.
Moving around and along the hullside, beneath the counter and forward of the stove is a pull-out cabinet front with wire shelves. The Force 10 two burner stove is next, with a large drawer under it for pots and pans. To the right is another counter space, with three drawers below that.
Above the counter along the hull is another signature innovation from Hunter. Behind a pair of glass doors is a dish rack, with a light, drying fan and drain. Next aft is a double doored locker, followed by a microwave. There are two opening ports and an overhead hatch in the galley, helping keep things cool.
Head: The head is located on port and is aft of the nav station. There is 6'4" headroom in both the sink and shower areas each space has an opening port and drains leading into the shower sump. As you enter from the saloon you are facing the sink. The Corian countertop and polished stainless-steel sink have double door storage beneath and a cabinet with sliding mirrored doors above. Moving aft into the shower/head compartment, there is a roll-up door that closes off the space to keep the sink area dry or simply for privacy. The manual head has a fold-down teak shower seat should you desire and a shower wand on a height adjustable bar. Continuing aft from the head/shower area you enter the master stateroom, so entry is from both the master and saloon.
Aft stateroom: The master stateroom Is oriented athwart-ship and has a queen size mattress and a padded headboard. There Is locker storage beneath the counters behind the headboard and at the foot of the bed. Lounging chairs are at either end or the bed, with a cedar lined hanging locker next to each of those. There are four opening ports, an opening hatch and a Hella fan for ventilation, with a pair of LED reading lights and three overhead lights for additional lighting. There Is a 5000 BTU AC/heat system with auxiliary heat for this cabin.
