Manufacturer Provided Description
It was imperative for us to deliver ‘more boat’ to our Owners, and to balance that with optimal efficiency of operation and maintenance. In fact, I feel that the most important feature of the Back Cove 30 is it’s state of balance: Balance between the proportions and performance, balance between social spaces and private ones, balance between classic looks and modern details. This boat can be very social when the occasion warrants, yet cozy enough for a couple to enjoy a short sunset trip or weekend cruise and still feel connected to the water. It is quieter, it is efficient, but it also had to be pretty - we like our Owners to want to spend an extra minute or two gazing at their boat before they head home from a weekend aboard. They deserve that.
The Back Cove 30 is built using VIP resin infusion technology that creates stronger, lighter parts, uses less resin and creates fewer emissions. Her interior is crafted with purpose-grown American cherry, not with teak from a tropical rain forests. And the Back Cove 30 will typically average about 5 gallons per hour of fuel burn. An elegant, smarter built boat that is easier on the environment in which she lives. The Back Cove 30 is a fuel efficient single diesel engine/bow thruster combination. New diesels of the type installed in the Back Cove 30 employ modern fuel injection technologies, are cleaner running and far quieter. Cruise speeds with her standard 315 hp engine are in the 20 knot range, and optional engines are available that will raise cruise speeds to the mid-twenties.
The Back Cove 30 hull is a vee-style with downward turning chines forward. This allows the boat to get on plane easily, with very little bow rise. She is an exceptionally dry boat: secondary spray rails and a flared bow throw water down and away from the hull at speed to ensure a dry ride. Aft, the hull turns to a 16 degree deadrise and her single propeller runs in a shallow pocket to reduce draft and running angle. A slight tumble home in her aft topside sections and her signature spoon-shaped bow add elegance to her profile. The reverse transom is handsome and practical adding useable space to her deep swim platform. Her transom door is flush mounted and opens outwards to allow for the largest possible cockpit sole. The Back Cove 30’s side decks are a study in safety and ergonomics. Sturdy hand rails are always within reach. Walking forward on this secure side deck you will notice a slight rise in the bulwark to prevent a foot from slipping overboard, while an aggressive diamond patterned anti-skid surface and extra high perimeter rails add to a feeling of security. Forward, a deep anchor locker offers plenty of volume for storage of lines and fenders
On her helm deck, the Back Cove 30 offers a unique design with seating for a half dozen guests. Raised seating for the mate and elevated seating on both the port and starboard settees will allow everyone to enjoy the view along the way. When at rest, the port settee and mate’s seat convert conveniently to another L-settee. At night this settee will also convert to an additional berth. All of this seating surrounds anelegant inlaid table.
Below deck, the Back Cove 30 offers a practical vee-berth layout. When not being used for sleeping, two seatback cushions are moved to form a bolster and a comfortable seating arrangement around her handsome, inlaid cherry wood table. The vee-berth filler piece stores conveniently forward of the bolster.
Her layout includes plentiful storage for personal gear below the berth and in the many drawers and the hanging locker found to port. Opening portlights in the sides of the house and a large hatch overhead, equipped with screen and blind, provide ventilation and natural light while her translucent companionway slider also brightens the cabin. Modern LED lighting is used in the overhead.
Aft and to starboard is the galley, a functional space with solid surface countertop, stainless steel sink, alcohol/electric stove, microwave oven and AC/DC fridge. There are many drawers and lockers for storage. Opposite to port, a full molded head compartment has a fresh water electric flush MSD, a solid surface countertop and pull out shower faucet.
