NAUTICAT 33 HISTORY

Design history of the Nauticat 33

Nauticats were built by Siltala Yachts in Finland with the name changing to Nauticat Yachts Oy which was used for the sailing yachts. The company built over 2,500 yachts in their 50 years of buiseness up to 2018 when the company closed. In 2022 the Nauticat company was purchased and going back into production with models. Due to the 33's long lived popularity she has been chosen as one of those three.

When asked by local sailors to build a 10m motorsailer able to cope with the worst ravages of the stormy Baltic, they created the Nauticat 33, its hull closely resembling a traditional Nordic fishing boat. These boats were built to the highest stands and with no core used in either the hull or the deck.

The MkI boats (pre-1977 with hull numbers 1 to 440) had a long shoal-draft.

The following 59 retained the latter but had a raised poop deck with a second helm.

In 1979, an all-GRP MkII version was introduced (numbers 500 on), and from 1982 a deeper fin keel and skeg-hung rudder were offered.

In total, some 1,100 were launched over the boat’s 31 years in production. Since these yachts were custom or semi-custom built there may not be two exactly alike.

WALK THROUGH

When first approaching Genesis you will note the solid teak handrail that surrounds the entire parameter of the yacht, with a stainless steel bow pulpit that extends out over the bow sprit which has two large built in anchor rollers. Side decks are quite wide with raised bulworks going forward. Moving aft you have a raised aft deck with two seat with storage inside and a stern seat. Out side helm is located at the forward end of the cockpit provide excellent visibility. All decks are teak (with NO coring in the decks providing the perfect platform for attachment). Off of the transom are stainless steel davits with solar panels mounted on top and a fiberglass sailing dingy that comes with the boat.

Entering the cabin can be done from either port or starboard sliding doors. One step down and you are now in the pilothouse / upper salon. The first thing you will note is the visibility with large glass windows providing 360 degree view and large sliding overhead hatch providing great ventilation. At the aft end of the pilothouse are two bench seats with a fold down table on the port side. Access to the aft cabin and head is between the seats. The helm is centrally located providing equal access to both doors. the helm seat is a movable and height adjustable teak helmseat and a beautiful teak and stainless wheel. Full engine gauges, electronics and breaker panels.

Just to the right and down two steps and you are in the galley and dining area. On starboard is a large well equipped galley. For the cooking chores there is a gimbled propane stove with oven and microwave. The top load refrigerator located to far right of the galley and for clean up large double bowl stainless steel sink next to the stove. Storage is handled by lots of closed storage cabinets both above and below the counter. All of the joinery is beautifully hand crafted teak with a satin finish varnish.

Located on the port side is your dining area. There is a large booth style dining table with two nicely upholstered bench seats. Above both seats and at the outboard end of the table are storage racks and cabinets.

Just forward and to port is the guest head. Last stop moving forward is the guest cabin, with a large V-berth with storage below. Above running the full length of the berth on both port and starboard are open storage shelves. Once again all of the joinery is teak with satin finish varnish.

Moving aft through the pilothouse you enter the owners stateroom with its own private head. There is full standing headroom though out this cabin and to port is a large pullman style berth. At the aft end and starboard side are plenty of storage lockers and cleverly concealed with in them is the sink. Just forward of these cabinets is located the owners head.

Thought out this boat the entire interior is teak with satin finished varnish and a teak and holly sole with the exception of the heads which have ceramic tile soles.
