Sail250 tall ship events celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026

One of the most memorable sights to see from the water is a flotilla of tall ships sailing majestically past a historic port. This year, as America celebrates the 250 th anniversary of our founding, viewers in five different U.S. cities will have the unique opportunity of watching from their boats or ashore as an international fleet of tall ships graces their local waters – including a truly epic Parade of Sail on the 4 th of July off New York City.

A global flotilla of tall ships and military vessels formed in honor of the U.S. Semiquincentennial, Sail250 is reminiscent of OpSail during the Bicentennial in 1976. This series of events features homeland favorites like the 295′ U.S. Coast Guard training ship Eagle
and the 157′ Pride of Baltimore II, along with international ships such as Argentina’s 295′ Libertad, Chile’s 371′ Esmeralda, and Peru’s 378′ Bap Unión.

Here is a list of the 2026 Sail250 events:

• New Orleans, Louisiana – May 28-June 1. A dozen tall ships are scheduled to dock in
  the Mississippi River along the city waterfront and offer tours to the public.
• Norfolk, Virginia – June 19-23. When it reaches the Chesapeake Bay, the fleet will
  swell to more than 60 ships. Festivities in Norfolk will include numerous onshore events,
  including an international cadet parade.
• Baltimore, Maryland – June 24-30. Sail250 Maryland adds an air show to the mix,
  including a training demonstration by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and flyovers by WWII-
  era Warbirds.
• Boston, Massachusetts – July 11-16. Boston Harbor is the historic backdrop for the last
  stop in the Sail250 tour. Once again, a Parade of Sail will be accompanied by shoreside
  events and public ship tours.

Sail4th 250

This summer’s biggest international maritime spectacle, Sail4th 250 comes to the Port of New York and New Jersey on July 3-9. In New York City, the Sail250 tall ships fleet will be joined by other traditional ships and more than 40 military vessels from the U.S. and allied nations, including a British aircraft carrier. On the morning of July 4 th , an international naval review of Gray Hull Ships will be followed by a monumental Parade of Sail along the Hudson River from the Verrazzano Bridge to the George Washington Bridge. Overhead,
more than 100 aircraft led by the Blue Angels will form a dazzling international aerial review.

On July 8 th , the Five Sisters Cup Tall Ship Race starts from New York Harbor bound for Boston. It will feature four of five famous sister ships that remain in service: The Eagle (U.S.), Sagres (Portugal), Mircea (Romania), and Gorch Fock (Germany). The prize they are competing for is the Tiffany-made Five Sisters Cup trophy, currently held by the Gorch Fock. Will the U.S.C.G. Barque Eagle be the victor in our anniversary year?

Between the majestic Parades of Sail, tall ship races, and international vessels docked along
the waterfronts of these picturesque ports, boaters should have a front-row seat of the action.
If you plan to take your boat out on the water during one this summer’s maritime events, however, be sure to check with the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities first to find out if there are any designated spectator boat areas or restricted zones.
