Charles Bartholomay
Having fished the Indian River and the offshore Atlantic waters since the age of 7, Charley’s love of the sea has led him through many areas of a professional marine career. Since earning his Capt. License forty seven years ago, he has seen and been a part of the tremendous growth in technology, production and service evident in current boating lifestyles.
As a test driver for Evinrude/OMC Charley got the call from Mr. E to come work at the Outrigger Resort on Ms. Langford’s personal sport fisherman Fran E, alongside the 126 ft DeFoe Chanticleer. Earning his sea time, he continued to run a pair of charter boats out of the Outrigger location.
In time he would accept an offer to become Director of Marine Recreation for General Development in Miami. Charley would soon play an integral part in launching charter ops at both Pirates Cove and Indian River Plantation, two new marinas that would eventually bring a great deal of commerce into the boat building community of Stuart, Florida.
In 1985, Charley was hired as the General Mgr to oversee the complete restoration of the Jupiter Island Beach Club at Jupiter Inlet. New and reconfigured docks, fuel delivery, power/cable and newly renovated pool and ship’s store all constructed from the ground up. Leased out, the JIB Club was sold in 1988 at a very strong profit.
His love of fishing never kept him off the water for very long, however. Based out of Stuart Fl, Charley conducted charter ops in the Outer Banks of NC as well, fished extensively in the Bahamas, on both Mexican coasts, Cuba and the Bay Islands of Honduras. He has won and placed in tournaments in most of these charter locations. Locally he has posted victories in the Gold Cup Palm Beach, Pirates Cove Sailfish Classic, 1992 BBC Release Winners, Stuart Sailfish Club Members, Sailfish Point Invitational, Treasure Coast Open 1983, International Billfish League 1983 Morehead, NC.
