Fred has worked within the marine industry for over 30 years and his diverse level of experience ranges from boat yard service tech, to new boat sales and yacht brokerage. While attending college in Maine pursuing a degree in Business Administration, a summer job crewing aboard a 100’ schooner fortified his love of the sea. Future studies focused on the marine trade, which combined with extensive offshore sailing experience helped him to obtain a 100 ton captains license. Over the years he has owned and operated various businesses catering to the private yacht sector, including offshore yacht deliveries, management and charter services.

In 1986, Fred was asked to assist with logistics, service and support for an entrant in the BOC Single-handed Around the World Alone Race – team ‘Airforce’. Beyond his duties as a consultant he helped to complete the build project and participated in the inaugural sea trials. In addition, he raised funds and helped to develop corporate sponsorships during this dawning of professional sailboat racing.

Two years later, Fred was recruited to participate in a National Geographic sponsored expedition; ‘Row to Antarctica’. He was part of a 4-man crew who made history by becoming the first to ever reach Antarctica by manpower. A specially designed and built 28’ boat was launched in the Patagonia region of Chile and rowed 720 miles across the Drake Passage to King George Island off the Antarctic Peninsula. The expedition encompassed 3 years of planning, months of training and 14 days to execute. In addition to a full daily regimen of work on the oars, duties included weather routing, navigation and film cameraman. The journey was chronicled in the January 1989 issue of National Geographic Magazine and a documentary was produced for the television series Living Dangerously.

Turning to life ashore, Fred has been involved in new boat sales and international yacht brokerage for 20 years. Over this time period he has represented yachts built by some of the most prestigious boat builders in the industry and has traveled extensively to all of the major yachting destinations worldwide. Recent credits include consulting and managing the start up of a new boat dealership in the United Arab Emirates.

With a base of operations in Newport, Rhode Island, his affiliation with Northrop and Johnson over the last 10 years has allowed him to expand his scope of international business practices within the marine trades. He is member of the Yacht Brokers Association of America, the Florida Yacht Brokers Association and is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker.
