Captain Doug Fockelmann was born in Galveston, Texas in 1983. Born and raised on an island, he took to the water immediately and learned from his father how to fish and sailboat alongside his twin brother. In 2002, immediately following graduation, he started his career in the yachting industry by obtaining his 50-ton captain’s license working on 30’ to 70' local charter yachts and tour boats at 18 years of age. When Doug is not working, he enjoys being on the water fishing, surfing, kiteboarding, diving, and cruising on any type of vessel. He also enjoys motocross, mountain biking, and spending time with family and friends.
Doug's journey in the mega yacht industry began on a private 112' Westport where he took advantage of his situation and learned as much as possible to advance in position and became a mate/engineer in a short period of time. By mid-2006, he took over the yacht as Captain where he continued to get his 3000-ton Ocean Captain’s License and a 4000-hp engineering license. Captain Doug shows outstanding loyalty and is still working for the same family on their 130' motor yacht 20 years later.
Doug believes in building strong, long-lasting relationships that have helped him succeed and have helped others on their journey as well. By doing so, Doug will always reach out for information and share any knowledge needed for safe passages or maintaining a vessel. With a long history of yachting, he has built countless relationships with captains and vendors and can utilize this to exceed expectations at the highest level of detail.
Doug decided to join United Yacht Sales after meeting some of the brokers and other members of the team.
