Northrop & Johnson Managing Director Asia Joshua Lee hails from Brisbane, Australia. After graduating from St. Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace, Josh took a class called Elementary Sea Going Skills in the hope of a career in the marine industry. This jump started his yachting career as it led to a job with a major large ferry operator, Whitsunday All Over. At age 19, Josh achieved his USL Master Class 5 ticket and became skipper of a 24-meter fast ferry capable of carrying 120 guests and seven crew.

Josh left the yachting industry some years later to try his hand at derivative trading in Hong Kong, working for a firm that managed funds for the wealthy expatriates in the region. The company eventually decided to move from Hong Kong to Singapore. During this period Josh was offered the opportunity to sail his yacht from Airlie Beach to Singapore. On the journey, Josh realized his true calling and decided once again to pursue a yachting career. He made way for Phuket, Thailand, on the advice of some local “yachties” and he fell in love with the unique nature of the islands. After enjoying several months in Phuket, Josh realized there were no yacht brokers in the region and decided it was time to consider selling his boat and moving onto his next challenge.

With a digital camera and floppy disk in hand, Lee Marine was born. Since 1997, the company has been a prominent force in the Asian yachting market, selling more than 700 yachts and earning a reputation as a trustworthy and respected brokerage.

Now, at the helm of Northrop & Johnson Asia as managing director, Josh uses his exemplary yachting industry experience combined with his international business awareness, his impressive network of clients and contacts and his impeccable work ethic to ensure nothing but a five-star experience for clients. Josh will continue to operate Lee Marine, which will continue its award-winning sales and after-sales service of new and used vessels smaller than 30 meters. Northrop & Johnson Asia will concentrate on large brokerage sales, new construction and project management, charter and vessel management services. Josh has curated an impressive team within Northrop & Johnson Asia that will help him continue to grow the company’s presence in the region and create successful experiences for clients in Asia and around the world.
