Description
NEW Listing of a Hatteras Cockpit
This boat is one of the rare models that was extended by Hatteras at the factory before it ever was sold. Designed by Jack Hargrave, the Company recognized the demand for cockpits in the marketplace and took several of their 54 Motoryachts and extended them 7' to add to the boats features. Built on the 17' 6" beam with a modified vee hull, this design was fitted with the optional 720Hp Detroit Diesels; brochure speeds were stated as 16 - 17 kts. cruise and max top speed of 21 kts. Owner states that slow cruise is 12 kts. and fast cruise is 17 kts. ***Notice should be taken
not to confuse this newer model with the older Hatteras Cockpit 61' MY. Other changes worth noting are a different interior layout, with portside entry to the galley and the guest stateroom on starboard and farther aft. This boat has a large cockpit, a spacious aft-deck with wing doors, full walkaround decks, spacious fore-deck and a comfortable flybridge. Boat has twin, upper & lower helm stations. This boat has been completely UPGRADED. The dark wood interior is gone and replaced with modern white interior. Custom cabinetry, updated features, modern wall coverings,
ceilings and attractive furniture make this boat appear to be much larger and newer than her sisterships. Boat has very good records, maintenance & full manuals for all the on-board equipment. Very desirable owner-operator boat.

Walkthrough
This newer Hatt 61 Cockpit Motoryacht is a three-stateroom boat. Master is aft with ensuite bath and plenty of dresser drawers and large hanging closet. Moving forward on the starboard side is the guest stateroom and a bath across the hall. Both Master and Guest baths have separate shower stalls. The forward cabin has bunks and a private head. All heads have been converted to Fresh Water Heads.
Again, moving forward through the hallway, is the Galley. A dinette on the portside and the U-shaped counter with appliances on the starboard side. Large windows allow a lot of light into this area and because the Galley utilizes the full beam, there is a lot of square footage allocated to this space. Galley has been totally Upgraded with counters and appliances; molded-in sink, pressurized hot & cold water, New 4 burner stove with oven, upright domestic refrigerator & freezer, Sharp carousel Microwave, Bosch dishwasher, InSinkErator garbage disposal and multiple lighting options.
In the forward section is the third cabin, or could be a crew cabin. Upper & lower bunks with cabinetry and a private head / bath that usually gets used as the day head for quests.
On Deck there is the helm station forward with captain's bench and access to the Flybridge. Aft of the full lower helm is the Salon. Custom cabinetry waist high and hiding the hi-lo TV, separates the helm from the salon. New multifunction Fusion Stereo. The Salon, like the rest of the boat, has been completely Upgraded. Extremely light and airy. Large windows let light stream in. Solid doors separate the Salon from the Aft-Deck which again is spacious and overlooks the cockpit. Main Deck is level and allows see-through vision from the bow to the stern. Off the Aft Deck is the large cockpit. The owner has installed a new teak product for the soles of the Aft Deck and the Cockpit, done with extreme care. The overall look is very sharp. Finally, there is a transom door to the external swim step. This makes for very easy boarding and for provisioning of supplies.
Above and accessed from the helm station is the entry to the Flybridge. A full helm station with an enclosure, arch and overhead encapsulate this area. Visibility is excellent and one can choose to either keep it enclosed or open it up. There are twin helm seats and then a 3-sided seating bench behind the helm. This owner has chosen to use the upper Aft Deck where the tender davit is located for an additional seating area, in the sun. He has outdoor furniture that can be secured, that can be utilized as an additional entertainment area.
This boat has full walkaround decks. Wing doors separate the decks from the Aft Deck to close off stronger breezes. The bow has places for a deck chair and also a sun pad built into the superstructure for sun lovers, or for viewing scenery while cruising. The possibilities of where to enjoy the marine outdoors while on board is very well thought out; remarkable for a boat of this size.

Construction
Hatteras motoryachts are hand-laid and molded fiberglass. Hull cosmetics as seen (June 2024) are quite good with good shine and above average condition. Some repainting has been done. Some minor nicks and minor scratches as would be expected on a vessel of this age. Keel is molded in with hull. All transducers and through hulls properly bonded. Bottom has two bronze struts per shaft. Shafts have cutlass bearings. Two four bladed propellers and two spare propellers mounted under cockpit sole. Rudders are bronze and spade type. Dual Trim Tabs mounted.
Stabilizers and Bow Thruster. Anodes on bottom and shafts.
Decks are molded fiberglass and cored, as is the side deck construction. White gel-coat with molded-in non skid on decks. Deck to hull joint which is an overlap type appears tight with no issues; Elastomeric compound between members.
Hull stiffness provided by FRP covered wooden longitudinal stringers that run the length of the vessel. They are well glassed into the hull and there are limber holes to allow for drainage in the bilges. Bulkheads are structural and run athwartships and are bonded to hull with fiberglass (FRP). Stem is solid and transom is reinforced at the factory. All interior soles are fiberglass. Teak trim around door and teak doors.
Remarks
SEA TALE is surprisingly unique in that he Upgrades to this boat and the obvious attention to maintenance are apparent. Boats of this vintage offer a heavy, sound construction which is advantageous when it comes to a comfortable ride. Running at low cruising speeds offers good economy, while the operator has the choice to get home quickly when needed. SEA TALE shows more like a contemporary yacht and with its fore deck, aft deck, cockpit and flybridge capabilities, this boat offers optional spaces for entertaining friends, family, and guests. It feels like a much larger vessel. We invite you to come and visit & inspect this well-cared for vessel.
