Description

PELICAN is one of the best examples of the highly regarded Bruckmann 50 Motorsailers - one of the very few motorsailer designs which is known for being both an excellent sailing boat and an excellent powering boat (and of course a great motorsailer!). While most motorsailers are known as having poor performance under both power and sail, the Bruckmann 50 is quite the exception.

PELICAN was built with a number of custom features, including a semi-circular dinette in the pilothouse with a table that drops down to store under the cabin sole, a very useful layout in the "den" area which allows a third double berth, and an enlarged forward cabin with a centerline double berth.

She is powered with one of the exceptional John Deere 150hp diesels, and has a 6kw Northern Lights generator (newer, with very low hours). Importantly, she has the "buoyancy extension" - an extension of the hull which also integrated the swim platform, storage, and on PELICAN, acts as the location for a wonderful set of custom stainless steel davits (new 2022) which also can carry paddle boards, a kayak, etc, while still providing access to the swim platform.

PELICAN has recent North Norlam working sails (2018) with a LeisureFurl boom, recent electronics, and is totally dialed in. She has go-anywhere ground tackle, a cockpit Bimini, electric primary winches, a commodious galley, a large solar array, Starlink and much more. Launch her and go!

This past summer her owners took her on a 2000 mile voyage up the Inner Passage to Alaska and back. They have enjoyed PELICAN for three trouble free years, but as often happens, priorities have changed, and PELICAN is now available.

Perhaps the perfect boat for the Pacific Northwest, she is ready to go when you are. And she can make her way to anywhere in the world you would like to visit - the Bruckmann 50 is known as a serious mile-maker off-shore, offering comfort, ease, sea kindliness, speed and safety.

NOTE: This boat is owned by an LLC. If desired, the LLC may be available for purchase if desired.

PELICAN is co-listed by Stonington Yacht Sales in Stonington, CT and Freedom Marine in Sidney, BC. We welcome your inquiries and encourage your inspection of this fine vessel.

LAYOUT

All Bruckman's are crafted to exceptional standards, both in construction details for the structural elements, systems and machinery installations, and ion the interior joinery detailing. IN fact, you will be hard pressed to find a boat which is as well organized and finished in the generally hidden spaces and the engine room, and which has the exceptional elegance of a fine Bruckmann interior. There is nothing quite as sumptuous as the mahogany joinery and details against the white bulkheads and overheads - all with Bruckmann's unique details which identify her as a cut above the cookie cutter interiors so commonly found on other brands.

PELICAN has a customized layout which adds some extra-special features from the standard arrangement.

FORWARD (PRIMARY) CABIN:

This cabin has been enlarged by removing the forward of the two heads. The space originally occupied by the forward head has been opened up into the forward cabin, which adds both elbow room and storage. One simply walks in to the head from thought the shower room, which has a door into the forward cabin. In addition, PELICAN was built a centerline berth, allowing easy access from both sides.

The mattress in this cabin is a custom memory foam version (details below).

There is a door to the main passage aft, and a door in to the shower and head compartments, as well as great ventilation through ports and hatches, excellent lighting, and voluminous storage.

GUEST CABIN:

Aft of the forward cabin to starboard one finds a lovely guest cabin with a large pullman berth. Storage is significant in cabinets and lockers. Ventilation and lighting are as one would expect on a vessel of this caliber. There is also a sink in this cabin.

HEAD AND SHOWER:

The head and Shower are located to port opposite the guest cabin. The head compartment is located aft of the shower, and has a door from the passageway. This a lovely location for the head, not far from the center of the boat, and therefore very comfortable in a seaway.

As one would expect, there is a toilet (VacuFlush) and vanity with sink in this area, as well as storage lockers for your gear and supplies.

The shower compartment is wonderful, large and useful, and located forward of the head.

Aft of the head is the fantastic galley. One finds everything needed for gourmet cooking whether at anchor of underway. Features include:

  • Corian countertops, new in 2017
  • Front and top loading refrigerator
  • Separate top loading Freezer
  • SeaFrost 12v refrigeration system
  • Force Ten three burner propane stove with oven
  • Microwave
  • Double stainless steel sinks.
  • The galley is open above to the salon - making communication easy and proving a more spacious and bright environment for the cooks.

DEN - CABIN THREE:

Opposite the galley is the "den" or office area, also called the library and at times the laundry room! This area can also serve as additional sleeping space. This cain has a forward facing settee which opens up to make a double berth - and it's a great sea berth even without being extended. The area is a great place to hang out with a little separation from the salon or the cockpit, and a great place to sit and socialize with the cook.

There is a full size washer and dryer (two separate units) inside cabinets, and a large counter. There is a bar area, and access to the back of the lower helm for servicing electrical, steering and other systems.

MAIN SALON:

One goes up three steps to the main salon, with wonderful light and 360 degree visibility. The inside steering station is located to starboard, with a barrel chair that raises for use at the helm and which lowers and swivels for salon use. Raising and lowering this chair is electric, of course.

A second built-in barrel chair is in the aft starboard corner of the salon. To port one finds a gorgeous semi-circular setteee with a varnished oval table. The table has a very clever design that allows it to be electrically dropped to stow beneath the floor. The pedestal hole in the sole even has a filler piece. Very nice indeed, and totally custom.

All upholstery in the salon is black ultra-leather. One finds the same sumptuous mahogany joinery in the salon as the rest of the boat, and the same teak and holly cabin sole as found elsewhere. Blinds on windows replaced 2017.

The salon is on the same level as the cockpit, so with the large sliding door open, the cockpit and the salon can blend together and create a large entertaining and living space.

COCKPIT:

The cockpit is large with fantastic bench seats to both port and starboard - are, long, wide seats that can double a berths when desired. The centerline table has drop leaves, and the cockpit helm console is at the aft end of the table.

There is a perfect helmsman seat aft of the wheel, which lifts to provide access to the swim platform through a large hinged transom door. The swim platform is large, full width, and integral to the buoyancy extension. There is even a hatch for access to storage under the swim platform.

There are also seats outboard of the centerline, with storage below (including the propane locker).

A bimini, new in 2024, protects the entire cockpit. Solar panels are on a "rack mount" above the Bimini.

Note that all lines are lead into the cockpit in convenient spaces and allows the use of the electric winches for the essential functions which one would want electrified.

Visibility is forward from the helm and anywhere in the cockpit is going to be a pleasant surprise for you - it is excellent.

ENGINE ROOM:

The engine room is below the main salon. Sound proofing ex fantastic. The entire engine room is neat and tidy and clean, and access to all systems and installations is superb.

Access to the engine room can be made in two ways. The staircase down to the forward section of the boar can hinge up, and one can enter from this direction if desired. Otherwise, the salon cabin sole has hinged hatch access. It is important to note that these hatches are large enough tot get the engine up out of the engine room (or the generator or any other gear) and the door to the cockpit is also wide enough to get the machinery out of the cabin. Bruckmann does not miss details of this nature - they are simply what any sophisticated mariner would expect, and the the Builder and designer (mark Elis) have delivered.

ON DECK:

While the cockpit is a coy and safe place for you and your crew, when one has to leave it to go forward it is a pleasure. the side decks are ample and uncluttered. hand holds abound. The Stanchions and lifelines are tall. The foredeck is spacious. The double anchor roller system, with the headstay tacked at the forward end of the anchor roller, makes for an exceptional anchor handling area with robust scantlings for large anchors and ground tackle.

Overall, this is an exceptional design - it just plain works the way one would want, and that goes for being at sea or being in port. One really needs to get aboard, if you have not been before, to understand why this deign, constructed so perfectly, is aw revered as it is.
