Rampart 48
Wild Goose
Owners Comments
We have loved the Wild Goose for her exceptional live aboard layout, the high quality and condition of her materials (White Oak keel, Canadian rock elm frames, Iroko planking all copper riveted, teak deck planking, completely rebuilt pilothouse). She is truly in exceptional condition and will last indefinitely with normal regular maintenance and care. Her systems have been maintained upgraded over the last 20 years.
What we love most about the Goose is how she moves effortlessly through the water and can turn in her own length. With her very low fuel consumption (2.5 Gal/hr @ 1200 RPM and 8 Knots) she has great range (480 miles) and with her 300 gallon fresh water tank and solar panels she can remain off grid without running her engines for at least a month between water top ups.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Wild Goose (formerly Aristobatta, formerly Lady Mary Ann) is a 1973 Rampart 48 designed by Horace Desty and built by the Rampart Boat Building Company in the United Kingdom. After thirteen years of ownership and numerous significant upgrades, the sellers have placed her on the market as they prepare to down-size.
The length over all of this vessel is 48’; the beam is 12’; she draws 4’1”.Bridge clearance is 23’.
Her frames are oak and elm and her planking is 1” Iroko. She is ballasted by a partial steel keel in addition to internal ballast.
Wild Goose is powered by twin 1973 Mercedes Benz OM 352 diesels delivering 125 HP each. The starboard engine, replaced about 1976. She is driven by three blade bronze propellers. Wild Goose cruises at 8 to 9 knots at 1200 RPM’s consuming about 2 ½ gallons per hour. Maximum speed is 15 knots at 2800 RPM’s.
New Vetus waterlift mufflers were installed in 2011.
The wheel house is equipped with a compass, Vertex 3500 E VHF radio, Raytheon radar and Navman 5500 GPS/Chartplotter. The bridge is equipped with a compass, VHF radio and Lowrance GPS/Chartplotter.
In 2016 the wheel house was completely replaced by Tern Boatworks of Nova Scotia. Construction materials included two layers of marine plywood, epoxy painted on the interior as well as ¼” mahogany on the outside. The original mahogany beams were retained for use in the wheel house ceiling. Custom made aluminum frame windows were fabricated to replace the originals.
The teak decks are 1 ¼” thick and widths vary from 3 ¼” on the foredeck to 3 ½” moving aft.
The 24 volt electrical system is adaptable to both American and European electrical systems. The boat is wired for both 30 and 50 amp service.
In 2011 a number of upgrades were completed in preparation for her cruise of the English coastline, the eastern United States and the Canadian Maritimes. New upholstery was added throughout the entire interior. The galley was fitted out with a new refrigerator/freezer and a new three burner stove and oven by SMEV. The galley counter top was replaced in 2016.
Tankage includes 2 – 76 gallon fuel tanks new 2022
There is a 300 gallon water tank as well as 25 gallon and 40 gallon holding tanks.
This is a three cabin, two head motor yacht that accommodates six in comfort and privacy. There is a double berth in the fo’c’sle, two single berths forward of the wheel house as well as the owners’ cabin aft featuring a center line queen berth. The owners’ head is aft of the galley/dinette area; the guest head is forward of the wheel house.
Comfort is maintained in cooler weather by a 2010 Eberspacher jet driven diesel heater.
On the bow is a Simpson Lawrence Francis 800 electric windlass.
Ground tackle includes an 65 pound naval anchor with 100’ of chain and 150’ of three strand nylon.
There are a number of miscellaneous items that are included with the boat, such as a rotisserie, a Dickinson Barbeque, Icey-Tek deck 90 Litre coolers, six fire extinguishers new in 2016 and numerous other items.
Manuals are available for all systems and items on board.
This Rampart 48 is a twin-screw motor yacht in very good condition. In addition to cruising the eastern United States, Canadian Maritimes and the English coastline, she has also cruised the Mediterranean, the West Coast of France and the Channel Islands.
Wild Goose may be driven from the comfort of its newly refurbished wheel house or from the Bimini covered flybridge. There is ample space on deck for entertaining or lounging on a lazy day. The interior is inviting, clean and well appointed. Storage space abounds throughout the entire vessel. She makes an excellent long distance cruiser or a great live-aboard.
