Description
The 1977 Cheoy Lee CHINA GIRL,๏ปฟ ketch rigged, hull # 3011, is an excellent example of the elegant Clipper 48 designed by A.E. Luders and built by the acclaimed Cheoy Lee shipyard. If ever you imagined yourself in the world of Errol Flynn, James Michner, and the golden age of yachting adventure, China Girl will transform you to that time that used to be. The beautiful sweeping lines, clipper bow, and varnished house present a nostalgic and graceful form. This is a vessel NOT for the faint of heart. If you are thinking multiple cabins, molded in Anything, you want to keep looking. This Cheoy Lee is replete with beautiful varnished teak and holly treatments that are more furniture and art form than naval architecture. Much has been added by the current owner to include, but not limited to, a new Kabuta 70hp.diesel, FrigoBoat refrigeration and separate freezer, new canvas, electrical and navigation upgrades, and much more. The bane of all Cheoy Lee teak decks is... teak decks! The teak decks on China Girl have been removed, glassed and synthetic Nu Teak has replaced the old teak. Itโs the same traditional look without the traditional maintenance. The heavy timber masts have been replaced by aluminum spars, saving weight and maintenance, although the booms are still the traditional wood booms. The weight saving and flexibility of the aluminum allows this vessel to point higher and sail faster with a lower center of gravity than could be achieved with the wooden spars. It is the best of both worlds.
Layout โBโ Model
Below decks the layout is a spacious two staterooms, two head layout with a complete galley and varnished teak joinery, reminiscent of the Orient Express.
The forward cabin has shelves on either side of the vee berth, with a seat, lockers and drawers below the berth. There is an escape ladder with both fixed and opening port lights. The port side passageway to the main cabin shows two hanging lockers along the the hull side. The fwd. head is fitted with a manual marine toilet, a hand shower and an opening port light, and a stainless steel sink.
The main cabin has wraparound seating port and stbd. See pics. There are pilot berth port and stbd. The stbd galley is equipped with new freezer and refrigeration. A three burner propane stove w/oven, and overhead storage complete the generous galley. The aft cabin has a large queen berth with an adjoining head and shower There are two opening ports and an overhead hatch for ample ventilation.
