Description
Force Majeure was a very well maintained and updated Catalina 470 until she had a run in with Hurricane Ian. Her previous owner had been more than meticulous in the care and upkeep over his ten years of ownership pre Hurricane Ian. Since Ian she has had some fiberglass repair done around the starboard aft port and some keel repair. The keel and port damage occurred while in the water and have been professionally repaired. She is reported to have not taken on any water during or after the storm. While there are still items to attend to ie. a small length of rub rail, small nicks on the transom and a good exterior wash and wax, this is a big capable passage maker with an extensive equipment list.
Accommodations
Force Majeure has the two cabin two head layout and easily accommodates 7 people with the main salon table converting to a double berth and the settee in the main salon offering a single berth. Each Head has separate enclosed showers, both heads are electric with options for salt or fresh water flush and the joker valve for both heads have been replaced. The aft cabin has a centerline queen berth with more than ample storage throughout the cabin with direct access to the aft Head. The forward cabin has a pullman double berth port side and starboard side hanging lockers and drawer storage. Forward of this cabin is a private Head with enclosed separate shower and forward of the shower is a storage area where the a previous owner had an electrical outlet installed in the cabinet.
There are three air conditioners two of which have been replaced. The largest unit is a 16,000 BTU Marvair, the other two units are made by Dometic. Each unit has its own in line filter and on the discharge side a Venturi valve to ship the condensate overboard. Away from the dock you can have air conditioning thanks to the Fischer Panda Mini 8 generator.
The teak and holly cabin sole has been refinished and sealed. The bulkhead mounted flat screen television in the Main Salon operates off of its own inverter.
Galley
The Galley has abundant storage and counter space, there is a vent hood over the Princess three burner LPG stove with oven, a new microwave, and a front and top loading Adler Barbour refrigeration system. You'll have plenty of hot water for dish washing and showers with the 20 gallon hot water tank which supplies hot water electrically or through the heat exchanger on the engine.
When you are offshore you will not want for fresh water with the Dometic SeaXchange SE800 water maker. This is a 800 GPD/33GPH water maker with a dedicated spigot at the galley. There is a water manifold so you can choose which of the five potable water tanks you want to store this fresh water.
Electrical
The 12 volt DC electrical system is a hybrid of two Lithium batteries for the House, one AGM battery for the Yanmar engine and one lead acid sealed battery for the generator. A Magnum Battery Charger renews the Lithionics lithium batteries while at the dock. The Yanmar starter battery is charged by a DC to DC converter. The generator battery is charged by a separate dedicated battery charger . While underpower the lithium batteries are charged by an APS (American Power Systems) high output 360 Amp alternator that has been detuned to 240 Amps. There two new sheaves on the engine to accommodate the high output alternator and belt.
At the Nav Station you have a cooling fan and a dedicated inverter for the monitor and your laptop. There is also an AccuGauge 8 monitor panel showing the fluid levels for the five potable water tanks and the two waste tanks.
The Fischer Panda Mini 8 generator remote panel is also located at the Nav Station, this panel was replaced with a new unit with the latest operating system firmware. The Fischer Panda Mini 8 is a 8KW generator with sound shield.
On the Transom you have two 30 Amp Shore Power connections and one 50 Amp Shore Power connection. At the Nav Station you have the two 30 Amp Breaker panels along with the single 50 Amp Breaker panel. The Magnum Energy Monitor is also located at the Nav Station.
Electronics
The Nav Station has a full complement of electronics including the Magnum Energy Monitor, Iridium Go Satellite Phone, Raymarine Multifunction Display serving as a repeater for the Cockpit Electronics, ICOM IC-M24 VHF with AIS Receive and Transmit functions and Jensen MS2013BT Stereo with Bose speakers in the cabin and out in the cockpit. The cockpit has a Ram Mic for the VHF, Raymarine E120 Hybrid Multifunction Display for the Chart Plotter/GPS/Radar and separate Heads for the Raymarine Wind, Depth and Speed. Force Majeure is also equipped with a Raymarine AutoPilot and Lewmar Bow Thruster.
Sails & Rigging
Force Majeure has newer sails: a Doyle Main with in-mast furling, a 135 furling Genoa and a Trysail. The Whisker pole is mast mounted. The running and standing rigging appear in very good condition. There are Harken self-tailing winches and one Harken electric winch.
Deck
The Deck and Cockpit are equipped with Wichard Padeyes for Jacklines and Tethers for your Harness. There is a plow anchor with chain and rope rode and a Lewmar Windlass.
There is a bimini, dodger connector and dodger-top with a full enclosure that can be zippered in place. The side curtains for the enclosure are stowed in the forward cabin. The Cockpit is quite large with a table centerline with storage. You can easily accommodate four people for dining in the cockpit and there are cushions for the entire cockpit area.
The walk thru transom makes for easy boarding when tied stern to or from a tender and makes for easy access to the hot and cold shower on deck. The swim ladder is a large strong 3 step ladder with hand holds which folds up to the stern rail. The manual bilge pump located in the cockpit has been completely rebuilt.
Mechanical Propulsion
Mechanical propulsion is provided by the Yanmar 4JH4-TE 75 HP diesel engine, this engine is a direct drive connection to the 3 Blade Max-Prop automatic feathering propeller.
The engine hour meter has been replaced and currently shows around 300 hours, it is believed the engine had around 600 or so hours when the meter was replaced. The previous owner has taken excellent care of the engine having recently restored the Heat Exchanger and replaced the Turbo. Also a 9.9hp 2017 Yamaha 4 stroke outboard is included with a possible tender available.
