M/Y Spirit – 2021 Stirling Point 46 | A Masterclass in Custom Craftsmanship
Spirit is a one-of-a-kind, Stirling Point 46 custom motor yacht, delivered in 2021 and meticulously constructed by the acclaimed Brooklyn Boat Yard in partnership with Kerr (James) and Sons, and designed by Matthew Smith. This vessel represents the rare intersection of timeless nautical aesthetics and cutting-edge marine engineering—built not just to cruise, but to inspire.
From the very first plank, it was clear that Spirit was no ordinary build. Unlike production boats or even most custom yachts, every aspect of this vessel was executed exclusively by master craftsmen—no apprentices, no assistants. These were the finest professionals in their fields: a marine electrician widely regarded as one of the best in the business (with a decades-long professional history with the owner), a naval architect and marine engineer personally installing systems in the bilge, and a shipwright and finish carpenter whose attention to detail extended far beyond his job description. This depth of talent and pride in craft is evident in every inch of Spirit.
Accessibility with Dignity
One of the defining features of Spirit is her custom-designed SeaLift® hydraulic transom lift, purpose-built for full wheelchair accessibility—a rare and thoughtful addition that doesn’t compromise on elegance or performance.
Hull & Construction
Built as a one-off, the semi-displacement hull is a masterclass in modern composite construction using traditional materials. The hull-bottom is composed of dual laminates of ½” Bruynzeel Marine Okoumé™ plywood, encapsulated in WEST System® epoxy, layered with biaxial cloth for ultimate strength and durability. The topsides are diagonally planked and epoxy sheathed, while the bulkheads and stringers are robustly bonded and reinforced with G10™ high-pressure laminate backing plates where needed.
Engineering & Finishes
The epoxy-encapsulated keelson and chines are laminated from Douglas Fir, glassed, faired, and finished to perfection. All through-hull fittings (Marelon™ below the waterline, stainless and PVC above) were tested for integrity and remain in as-new condition, while the hull was treated with Interlux® Interprotect 2000/2001™ barrier coat and Micron CSC™ ablative bottom paint. Her topsides gleam in a flawless Awlgrip® Oyster White™ finish, polished to a mirror-like sheen with additional clear-coat layers.
Transom & Deck Details
The gently curved, reverse-angle transom features custom stainless-steel doors and hinges, designed to complement the SeaLift® platform. A decorative filigree adorns both sides of the bow, adding an elegant signature to her sharp, dreadnought stem with polished stainless striker plate. Topside, Spirit’s rub-strakes and chafe guards are built for real-world protection while preserving visual harmony with her timeless lines.
Interior Craftsmanship
Her interior bulkheads are constructed of Bruynzeel plywood and finished in hand-selected old-growth salvaged Cypress, fashioned into elegant stile-and-rail cabinetry. These natural materials are not only aesthetically beautiful but speak to the vessel’s ethos of sustainability and longevity.
In Summary:
Spirit is more than a yacht—she’s a deeply personal expression of marine craftsmanship, built without compromise and with profound respect for both tradition and innovation. Designed for inshore and coastal exploration, she offers unmatched comfort, accessibility, and style.
A true bespoke motor yacht, Spirit is ready to continue her journey with an owner who appreciates authenticity, quality, and the soul of the sea.
