Description
This 1991 Mason 44 was designed by Al Mason and built at the renowned Tashing Yard, known for producing some of the finest cruising yachts in the world. The Mason 44 is a proven offshore passagemaker that offers exceptional performance, a sea-kindly motion, and unmatched durability. Whether you're an experienced sailor seeking your next adventure or someone new to the world of cruising, the Mason 44 promises an unparalleled sailing experience.
The Mason 44 was redesigned by Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) in 1985. Based on the same hull as the Mason 43, but with several notable design improvements, it combines the proven offshore capabilities of its predecessor with modern enhancements. The redesign includes a modified rudder, a raised sole for increased fuel tankage, a new aft companionway, and a full-width mainsheet traveler. Perhaps most significantly, the deck was upgraded from teak to a fiberglass with deep, diamond pattern non-skid, reducing maintenance while preserving the yacht’s classic elegance.
The Mason 44 is designed for the discerning sailor who values both beauty and performance. Its solid fiberglass construction and robust rigging allow it to handle a variety of sea conditions with ease. The redesigned rudder and full-width mainsheet traveler enhance its stability and sailing performance, especially in heavier winds. The yacht’s LeisureFurl boom and electric halyard winch make single-handed sailing a breeze, while the ICW-friendly rig ensures ease of maneuvering in inland waters.
Step below deck, and you’ll be greeted by a spacious and inviting interior that combines elegance with comfort. Rich teak and exquisite joinery showcase master craftsmanship, creating an inviting and elegant interior. The newly replaced fabrics and foam in the salon and navigation station enhance both aesthetics and comfort. The well-appointed galley provides everything needed for extended cruising, while the two comfortable cabins provide privacy and ease for longer voyages.
Caring for CIRCA TEMPO, her current owners (the third in her history) have kept her in exceptional condition. Recent 2025 maintenance and upgrades include:
- Mast and Standing Rigging: The mast was removed, and all standing rigging wire was replaced. Staloc fittings were cleaned, inspected, and reused, ensuring longevity and reliability.
- Batteries: The yacht now features brand new AGM batteries, ensuring a reliable power source for all electronics and systems.
- Deck & Engine Work: The deck prisms have been re-bedded, and the engine room fire extinguisher has been replaced for added safety.
- Thru-hulls & Plumbing: All thru-hulls were serviced, with four replacements, and all new head hoses were installed.
- Interior & Systems: In 2024, the salon and nav station’s foam and fabrics were replaced, and key systems like the dripless shaft seal and exhaust hoses were updated for optimal performance.
The 1991 Mason 44 is a rare find—offering an unbeatable combination of elegance, performance, and comfort. Its exceptional maintenance and thoughtful upgrades make it ready for its next adventure. Whether you’re planning a coastal journey or an offshore passage, CIRCA TEMPO is prepared to take you there.
