Description

Caelestis is a privately owned, owner’s version Lagoon 440 that has never been chartered. The current owner purchased her in 2008 in Florida where she was very lightly sailed. Since then, she has remained in the southern Caribbean and sailed approximately 500 nautical miles per season between Grenada and Dominica. She is hauled and stored on the hard every season, with the exception of the upcoming summer (2025), during which she will remain in the water to facilitate her sale.

The Lagoon 440 is one of the most popular cruising catamarans ever produced, and for good reason. Known for its durability, spaciousness, and smart design, the 440 offers features that are now standards in the catamaran world. Her distinctive flybridge helm station—a revolutionary concept when first introduced—offers excellent visibility and control, while freeing up the cockpit for relaxation and entertaining. Wide side decks, secure handholds, and forward lounging areas make her safe and enjoyable for passage-making and living aboard.

Caelestis is the sought-after owner’s version of the Lagoon 440, offering a luxurious master suite that occupies the entire starboard hull, complete with a large head, walk-in shower, office/workspace, and generous storage. The port hull contains two guest cabins with en-suite heads, allowing for comfortable accommodations for up to 6–7 people without compromising privacy. The salon is bright and airy, with wraparound windows, ample seating, a convertible table, and excellent ventilation. The galley is up and integrated into the living space, ideal for entertaining and practical for cruising.

Over the years, Caelestis has been carefully maintained and selectively upgraded to support safe and comfortable cruising.

Major upgrades include:

  • Electronics and Rigging: Most navigation electronics, standing rigging, and solar power systems professionally upgraded in 2015 (St. Maarten)
  • Recent Replacements (2023–2025): All house and start batteries, Isotherm fridge and freezer, trampolines, and all nine macerator and bathroom pumps
  • Power Systems: (4) 215W Kyocera solar panels, Xantrex 3000W inverter, and FlexMax battery charger
  • Engines & Generator: Both engines (Yanmar 54hp) and the diesel generator are serviced seasonally; generator battery replaced in 2025
  • Engine and generator hours are estimated. There is no hour meter visible.
  • Safety: 10 USCG fire extinguishers, EPIRB, 8 PFDs, offshore life raft, flares, and flare gun
  • Ground Tackle: 80 lb Manson Supreme primary anchor with 150 ft chain, Force 60 secondary, Fortress spare, and windlass serviced 2025 with upgraded control box

With a proven hull design, spacious interior, and recent upgrades, Caelestis is a well-balanced cruising platform—ideal for a couple or small family seeking self-sufficiency and comfort. Whether you plan to coastal cruise, cross oceans, or live aboard full-time, this Lagoon 440 offers the space, safety, and systems to make it happen.

She is currently located in Grenada, available for viewing by appointment.

    Owners Comments and Boat History

I purchased the boat from the original owner in Florida in 2008 , she had been lightly used for one year there. We sailed her to the islands and cruised seasonally between Grenada and Dominica.

In 2015 the standing rigging was replaced in St. Maarten.

While Caelestis did spend 2.5 years on the hard during COVID restrictions, she was washed weekly and ventilated throughout. As a result, her structural and mechanical systems were preserved in good condition, though soft goods and headliners were refreshed as needed afterward. She has never suffered notable damage nor been the subject of any insurance claims.

Caelestis was purchased in 2008 in Florida from the original owner. She was sailed to the southern Caribbean, where she has remained in private use to the present day. She has never chartered and only been sailed seasonally, doing light inter-island passages from Grenada to Dominica and back—totaling about 500 nautical miles per season. She has been stored on the hard after every season, with the exception of this coming summer, when I will keep her moored for selling purposes.

With the onset of COVID restrictions, Caelestis sat on the hard for 2.5 years in Grenada—this was the low point in her history. The boat’s structural and mechanical elements were relatively unaffected, but the top surfaces and interior finishes required a lot of attention. All headlining, seating, and fabrics (except curtains), as well as the sails, were stored in a warehouse.

With the exception of that period when she was on the hard, the exterior has been washed down weekly, and the hatches opened for ventilation—a procedure that continues to this day.

The rigging and most navigational equipment were replaced in 2015 in St. Maarten. Caelestis has never experienced any notable damage or insurance claims during my ownership.

    Since 2023:

    • Trampolines were replaced
    • All batteries were replaced
    • Fridge and freezer were replaced
    • All bathroom pumps and macerators (9 in total) were replaced
    • The exterior mahogany is in good shape. There are no cracks below the waterline, and there has never been any leaking.

All headlining throughout the boat was replaced in 2024. All cushions, inside and out, were replaced or recovered between 2024 and 2025 with marine-grade vinyl featuring a calf-hide texture. The woodwork is high-quality cherry and remains in good condition. The fridge and freezer are new Isotherm models. All bathroom mirrors were replaced in 2024 with beveled glass. Kitchenware includes Le Creuset pieces. All kitchen equipment and dishware are high quality and well maintained. Cabinetry throughout the vessel is also in excellent condition.
