2008 Tartan 4300 Two Cabins, Two Heads Solar, Watermaker, Lithium Batteries, AC 1600 BTU BORN IN THE USA! Rio is a spacious 43 monohull designed by Tim Jackett and built at Tartan Yachts located in Painesville, Ohio, USA. Unlike a lot of boat designers, Tim Jackett is an active sailor / racer and has been since he was a kid. He started working for Tartan Yachts out of college and has been there ever since going on 50 years! Why is this important? Who cares? Right? Wrong! This shows the commitment, integrity and craftmanship maintained over the years with Tartan Yachts and, yes, they are still in business today (since 1951). Now, about Rio, first of all, this boat is made out of vacuum bagged, two-part epoxy laminate. This makes her light weight and impervious to osmosis. THEN add carbon fiber rigs and parts. What? Yea, the Tartan 4300 was engineered to perform! The streamlined low coach roof adds to the performance as well as classic lines that gets heads turning in any marina. The self-tacking jib makes cruising easy in addition to all lines leading back to the cockpit. The current and only owner sailed her around the world mostly single-handed. The decks are uncluttered with a deep, secure cockpit area. When I first stepped on board Rio I was impressed. The interior cabin area is very spacious for a 43 boat. Aside from the amazing rum collection, my first thought was elegant. It was like you go below and Ahh! a great escape for the crazy world outside. The navigation station is tucked into the corner with a comfy adult-size chair. (Most boats have a tiny stool that swings out.) This would make a great office space as its out of the way of traffic. The U-shaped galley is one of the most efficient I have ever seen. The solid molded double sink is on an island-ish cabinet facing the aisle where you have access to both sides. It also has a versatile pull-out faucet, handy for rinsing dishes. The fridge is a convenient top loading AND front-loading model. There is also a separate top loading efficient freezer. There is plenty of counter space, cabinets and ventilation. I love this galley! The cream colored Utra-Leather upholstery compliments the cherry finish cabinetry and enhances the roomy feel. A wide, flat screen tv adds to the entertainment esthetics of the saloon area. Dimmable light switches allow for warm, ambient light. Dining for eight? Yes, please! Each cabin has its own electric fresh water head which eliminates odors! The forward owners cabin has a semi-island style queen bed, and a flat screen tv with Bose speakers. There is a seating area and hanging lockers. The aft cabin has a double bed with lots of storage space. Included is a nine foot AB aluminum bottom rib with engine and custom covers. The value of a boat is based on condition and upkeep. If you have been in the market for awhile and have looked at a few boats, you will quickly realize the Rio is a well-cared for yacht. Rio was originally purchased by her owner brand new from the factory. She has been around the world and is currently sailing around the tropical islands of the Caribbean. She is located in Grenada which has some of the best sailing in the world. Tim designed this boat with comfort and cruising in mind. ***Owner just ordered two new headsails from North Sails! Rio Tartan quality built for optimal cruising performance in a classic style.
