    ON DECK

The innovative cockpit includes lengthy 6'6" seats and a starboard cockpit seat which converts to a double berth or deck lounge. The seats are extended to an 18" depth for additional comfort and protection from the weather. The deck features twin helms on performance pedestals and angled foot braces for the helmsman.

The engine control is starboard and low enough to prevent tangling with the sheets. The sleek, low profile cabin structure with flush deck hatches creates excellent visibility and the helmsman's seating is raised over 7" above the port and starboard lounge seats for improved line of sight. Large pushpit seats are situated behind the helmsman on both the port and starboard sides. The winches are placed well aft for ease of single-handed sailing. Stoppers for the main and jib sheets are located just in front of the aft winches to remove a tripping hazard and allow a comfortable seating position on top of the combings. The line of the deck and shape of the topsides aims for a dry, comfortable ride. The deck hardware is oversized for additional safety and ease of handling.

A self-tacking working jib and jib traveler are standard. Main and jib sheets are lead to the helm for efficient short-handed sailing. Roller furling mainsail and headsail are standard, and Picture Perfect has an additional 135% genoa with adjustable track. There is also a Code 0 asymmetrical reaching sail that attaches to an integral mount at the bow anchor roller. A double anchor roller is included with the ability to carry two permanent anchors with two rodes in a divided bin, and Picture Perfect has an upgraded Ex-Cel primary anchor with Mantus swivel. The windlass is operated by a wired remote control and there an option to be able to deploy the anchor from the cockpit. The foredeck is large to provide space to work on the foresail. Excellent upwind performance is created by inboard chain plates for improved sheeting angles.

The weather decks are open and wide at 25" and deliberately uncluttered to provide excellent visibility and ease of movement. The stanchions and lifelines are raised to 28" for extra safety on deck. The 6' cabin top space forward of the traveler creates an additional sunbathing and lounging area towards the bow of the boat. The diamond non-skid provides a robust and low maintenance surface under foot. A flush hatch is situated on the stern and is large enough for life raft or dinghy storage. There is a retractable stern platform which is ideal for swimming and, when combined with the split backstay, eases boarding from the stern.

    BELOW DECK

The companionway hatch is made of Lexan which is strong enough to walk on and allows light through to the main saloon. The ergonomic cockpit is complemented by the recessed companionway which creates a resting and bracing surface for comfortable and safe operation of the halyard winches. The port side cabin can be entered via a unique vertically telescopic cockpit hatch.

The spacious feel is continued below deck, with 6'-8” head room in most areas. Six large, fixed ports recessed into the hull provide lots of light and visibility, which is complemented by direct and indirect LED lighting. The central gull wing ceiling hatches provide excellent ventilation.

The saloon is a truly usable living space, with a large U-shaped dinette and lounging chairs. There are large double cabins aft on both the starboard and port sides. The aft double bunks feature 54" width at shoulder level. Storage includes hanging lockers in both aft cabins. The port cabin is easily converted to a storage cabin or workshop with the large cockpit hatch for on deck access. All cabins are solidly built to provide sound privacy.

The large galley includes a front-loading refrigerator and a separate top loading freezer. There is a three-burner polished stainless steel stove with oven and a microwave. There is plenty of counter space and an additional pull-out countertop for over the stove. The double sink faces the saloon seating area and the splash guard is short and transparent.

The 425 is designed for easy maintenance. A central accessible mechanical space provides excellent access to the primary engine, generator, water heater and air conditioners. Access is provided both under the companionway steps and through the port side aft cabin, which simplifies maintenance and inspections necessary for systems reliability. A dedicated filter locker is a unique feature. The Yanmar 57hp diesel engine is electronically controlled for improved economy and can be interfaced with Raymarine chart plotters for engine monitoring. Large capacity fuel, water and waste tanks are designed to benefit cruisers and are readily accessed. The electrical panel is high quality, hinged aluminum with space for additional breakers and equipment.

The 425 has two spacious heads with elegant basins, enclosed showers and electric heads. One has a separate shower stall.

The forward owner's cabin features a large centerline berth with an elevating adjustable mattress for reading and watching TV, a large blanket bin under the berth, and a 40" hanging locker.

The 425's extensive safety features are numerous. The watertight collision bulkhead is a below water impact absorbing chamber with a watertight collision bulkhead. The rudder system creates failsafe steering and the rudder has a molded-in leading edge to avoid the need for a vulnerable seam on the foil's vertical centerline. The T-Beam mast step structure provides all the benefits of a deck stepped mast and the strength of a keel-stepped mast. The mast support/ chainplate system facilitates load resolution and watertight integrity. The load bearing grid work is extensive and prevents hull flex while distributing the weight of the keel. It has an internal flange hull to deck joint for extra strength. Methyl methacrylate adhesive is used in the hull to deck joint and to bond the structural grid which carries the weight of the rig and the keel. Knitted fabrics are used to create a stronger laminate without additional weight. End grain balsa coring is used above the waterline for additional stiffness and insulation. The hull has a molded-in fiberglass toe rail. The lead keel is designed to absorb impacts for safety and requires less maintenance than other materials. The ballast ratio is high at 40%. All systems are designed following the recommendations and standards of the ABYC and IMCI to earn the highest rating of Category A - Unlimited Offshore.

    REVIEWS

True to the 5 Series philosophy, the new 425 is contemporary in style, and traditional in function and practicality." - Cruising World

“... the style is clean, simple and strong...the interior layout is a well-thought-out design...This layout would be excellent for a couple with two kids... The starboard seat [on deck] is much deeper than the port cockpit seat. This is brilliant! If you are going to sit upright all you need is an 18-inch-deep seat. But if you want to really relax and sprawl you need at least 22 inches of depth and 36 inches is even better. If you doubt me, the next time you go sailing with the family just look how people sit on the settees when you are underway. Women like to sit with the legs curled up under them. You can't do this on an 18-inch-deep seat. Whoever made this design decision should get an award. Plus, think of the comfortable napping place it makes. I know my boys would have fought over it as their sleeping spot for the night.” - Robert H. Perry, Sailing Magazine
