M/V Kava Kava
We have always been boaters, and Janet grew up water skiing on the Bird River off the Gunpowder River in Baltimore. When we met, I had a small 22’ sailboat that served as our honeymoon vessel. We eventually upgraded to a Catalina 27, a Gulfstar 36, and a Hunter 41 and joyously sailed the entire Chesapeake Bay. John Kaiser was instrumental in making these transactions go smoothly.
When Father Time snuck up on us, and we decided to go to the dark side, we asked John again to assist us in finding a proper motor vessel that the two of us could handle comfortably. John was able to sell our Hunter 41 in a little over a week, and with funds burning a hole in our pockets, off we went with John to look at a variety of vessels.
What we initially liked about the Sealine 420 Statesman, as sailors, was that it was a handsome vessel with great lines. It is a British made boat with comfortable accommodations that was extensively redone on 2009. We love the warmth of real teak and mahogany trim. A flybridge was mandatory, for that’s where we spend most of our time. The steps to the flybridge were properly sloped for safety, and all lines were easily accessible. The first thing we did was upgrade the anchor (from 22 to 46 lbs) and rode for safety. The windlass and bow thruster make docking less stressful. The galley accommodates our culinary needs and the added SS BBQ with large propane tank make cruising memories.
Since purchasing Kava Kava we have cruised the Chesapeake and the ICW down to our current retirement home in Fort Pierce, FL. We have been blessed with a wonderful vessel for the two of us and thoroughly enjoyed our time aboard. As you can see from the listing and photos, we too have continually upgraded Kava Kava to our standards of comfort. Now again Father Time rears his head, and it’s time to turn the page to another of life’s chapters. We are taking one last cruise up the ICW, revisiting our favorite haunts on the Bay, and will deliver Kava Kava to John’s compound in Annapolis. We sincerely wish that whomever purchases Kava Kava that they have the same joy we have experienced.
All the best, Pete and Janet Terry
