RASCAL

Purchased in 2016 with plan to completely rebuild the hull and deck

The rebuild has resulted in a very dry, stiff hull and deck, benefitting performance in all conditions

Minor modifications made to the standard Farr 40 design spec:

- 4" increase in waterline length resulting from straightening the stem to plumb, from raked

- Increased chamfer on sheerline for enhanced crew comfort when hiking legs out

The interior was freshened with a new paint job.

The standard interior layout lends itself equally well to both day racing and distance racing

Sails include:

  • delivery/daysailing dacron mainsail
  • 3 x delivery/daysailing jibs
  • delivery/daysailing Code 0
  • 3 x racing conditioning spinnakers

The rebuild/refit resulted in RASCAL being virtually a new boat - see details below

REBUILD & REFIT

> Hull balsa core completely replaced from bow to stern

> Bow modified to plumb from raked with 4" increase in waterline length* - for aesthetic value only

> Hull then faired and longboarded

> All deck balsa core replaced with high density fibreboard

> Added gunwhale radius molded in for greater crew comfort sitting on the rail legs out*

> Hull and deck painted with Awlgrip

> Bottom sprayed with 7 coats of VC Offshore

> Interior repainted with Petit Eazypoxy

> V-berth floorboards fabricated and installed

* these changes make RASCAL ineligible for one-design racing

> Running rigging replaced with Dyneema ropes to class specs

> Standing rod rigging entirely replaced - Offshore Spars, MI

> Lifelines replaced with ss 1x19 wire - Abbott Boatworks, ON

> Bow and stern pulpits powder coated - Whitewater Marine, MI

> All winches refurbished

> Majority of Harken blocks replaced

> New steering wheel - 2024

> New i-series Raymarine instruments - 2019

> New autopilot - Garmin Octopus model 1012 - wired, ready to install

> Engine stripped down and rebuilt with new injectors, new waterpump, new water separator, exhaust and all new hoses, clamps and gaskets

The photo gallery includes lots of photos taken at various times during the rebuild - a truly extensive, comprehensive project
