Description
The Sabre 38 Salon Express embodies the forefront of design and naval architecture. While her exterior retains the classic "downeast" aesthetic, reflecting the timeless tradition of Maine boat building with its beauty, strength, stability, reliability, and seaworthiness, her inner workings are a testament to modern technology. From resin-infused laminates to cutting-edge systems and pod propulsion drive, innovation is integrated throughout. Her hull design represents the latest advancements in vee-hulled motor yachts, specifically optimized for pod installation. This results in improved fuel efficiency, quiet operation, and a comfortable, dry ride.
Inside, the Sabre 38 Salon Express features an open design that seamlessly accommodates both day trips with friends and extended cruises. The cockpit is elevated to just five inches below the main salon, creating a harmonious connection between these key social areas. At the aft end, the house opens up with drop-down windows and a swing door, enhancing the flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The pod drive train of the Sabre 38 excels in fuel efficiency, making it a crucial feature in times of fluctuating diesel prices. By channeling exhaust through the propeller stream, the pods also significantly reduce noise levels. Additionally, they enhance boat handling, providing confidence when docking or maneuvering in tight spaces.

Vessel Walkthrough:
The onboard experience of the Sabre 38 is designed for seamless flow and open living, both indoors and out. As you step onto the swim platform, gates on either side lead you into the cockpit, featuring a straight settee built into the transom and a shorter aft-facing settee to port, both separated by a high-gloss cherry wood table. In a brilliantly innovative touch, Sabre engineered this area to be adaptable: the entire transom with its settee and table can slide 14 inches aft over the swim platform. This adjustment expands the cockpit space, facilitating easy movement while at anchor. When everything is slid back into position, it joins the seating areas to create a delightful aft-deck dinette.
The seamless flow of the cockpit extends as the outdoors merges with the indoors; this transformation occurs when the large aft electric window is lowered and the bifold glass door to starboard opens, effectively creating an expansive indoor/outdoor great room. Within the salon, a straight cabinet to starboard houses an LED TV on an electric lift and a stereo system. On the port side, a U-shaped settee and a high-low pedestal table offer versatile seating. Ingeniously, the backrest of the forward section of the settee swings aft, creating a small forward-facing L-shaped lounge. This allows one or two people to relax and converse with the helmsman. Large windows encircle the salon, providing plentiful natural light and a 360-degree view from any seated position. The entire interior features Sabre’s signature satin-varnished cherry finish and dovetailed maple drawers, complemented by subtle LED lighting throughout.
To starboard, you'll find the helm featuring a single Stidd chair, a 16-inch Stazo wood-trimmed wheel, and an efficiently organized dashboard. The boat is equipped with Volvo IPS electronic controls, a joystick, a VHF radio, a Garmin 5215 multifunction display, and a Volvo Penta color display for all engine functions. While an autopilot system is not included, there is space on the dash to install a control unit if desired.
Three steps amidships lead down to the galley, effectively removing kitchen clutter from the social area while still keeping the cook engaged in conversation. The galley features a Kenyon electric cooktop, a microwave oven, two drawer-style refrigerators, and ample storage throughout. A circular sink is neatly tucked in the corner and comes with a solid surface cover. Aft of the galley, there's an open L-shaped lounge that can easily convert into a double bed for occasional guests or children. Thanks to the large optional fixed portlight, this area is pleasantly bright.
The master stateroom is located forward and features a queen-size walk-around bed, a TV, a stereo, and large drawers beneath the berth. It provides direct access to the spacious single head, which includes a Jabsco QuietFlush freshwater electric toilet, a stylish vessel sink, and a roomy shower enclosed behind a glass door. The master cabin can be closed off for privacy or integrated into the below-deck flow. The panel between the galley and the stateroom, which houses the 26-inch LED TV, can be lowered manually or with an optional electric assist to open the cabin. With the panel down, you can enjoy a view from the bed through the salon and out to the transom settee, creating exceptional flow throughout.
The twin Volvo Penta D4 300 hp diesel engines with IPS pod drives are conveniently accessible through the cockpit sole, simplifying maintenance. Two 150-gallon rotomolded fuel tanks are positioned on either side of the 6 kW Kohler generator. These translucent tanks provide a reliable visual backup to the fuel gauges at the helm. When the hatch is open, there's ample space for performing routine maintenance tasks or more extensive repairs, all while benefiting from fresh air and plenty of natural light.
The Sabre 38 Salon Express is designed for those who appreciate the blend of classic aesthetics with modern functionality, making it a popular choice for coastal cruising and weekend getaways.
