Owner's Comments
What a ride!
We bought Blue Pearl on the eve of our retirement in 2009. Such a beautiful boat... It was love at first sight. And we were young and able and ready for adventure.
We wanted to escape the cold northern weather and spend winters in Florida, the Keys and the Cays. We headed out to explore the eastern and western shores of Florida and spent several winters sailing the beautiful Bahamian islands, heading back home each year for our northern summers.
The lure of the Caribbean was always there and so after a few years we ventured further south... to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. In subsequent years we travelled to Grenada stopping at many wonderful spots along the way. We always stop to say hello to Island Packets in the anchorages and have met friends that we'll keep for life. For the last 8 years, Antigua has been our home base.
When we weren't playing we were working... maintaining the boat. We did so much work on the varnish that friends started calling us "Blue Tape" because of the masking tape from our painting sessions.
We've changed out the windlass, done the chainplates, upgraded the electrical, repaired and replaced electronics, replaced the canvas, replaced the rigging and put on a new suite of Mack Sails. We've created sunscreens to protect us from the Caribbean sun. Always changing out pumps that break down, fixing corroded hose clamps, tuning the rig, and maintaining the engine with oil changes, coolant flushes and impellers.
And that's the thing. We have come to realize that the joy of owning a beautiful boat requires hours of hard work. And so sadly, after 15 years, we have decided that it is time for this beautiful boat to be recycled to someone who will love it as much as we do and maintain it to the degree that it deserves.
We are proud of our boat and consider ourselves fortunate to have enjoyed her for so long. Now it's time for someone else.
