Southern Cross
Full Details
Design
The Southern Cross is a 1976 design by
Thomas Gilmer as a traditional, double-ended
cruising sailboat whose underbody has a fine
entry, firm midship section, and fine run aft.
The hull topside has a spoon bow, moderately
low freeboard, and a rockered sheer. It is
powered by a masthead sloop rig or a 24 hp
diesel inboard auxiliary. The deck has a trunk
cabin and aft cockpit for tiller steering. It is
typical of a type believed generally suitable
for alongshore and offshore cruising in
moderate weather with proper preparation,
adequate skills, and prudent seamanship.
Heat and Air
Mermaid thermostatically-
controlled ~8,000 btu reverse-
cycle heat pump with seawater
intake and AC water pump.

painted aluminum boom with fixed
