Construction
Birdsall Marine Design utilizes state of the art polymer composite materials, along with its unique “Controlled Flex” modular structural design, to create a vessel with a fully integrated structure featuring a strength-to-weight ratio unmatched in its class. Perhaps more important is the unique durability realized. In engineering terms, “strength” is an absolute, defined by structural failure, while “durability” is defined by how many times a structure can be load-cycled. The Birdsall 30 has been engineered to be both strong & amazingly durable!
All materials employed in our build schedule are of the finest quality. No thought is wasted on trying to save money by using questionable products. This theme continues from our gelcoat finishes to laminations that are a composite of premium biax knit fabrics, with 45-0-45 & 0-90 fiber orientations, precisely combined with a premium vinylester resin matrix.
All components of the craft are of “sandwich construction”, utilizing Corecell foam cores exclusively. Initially developed for use in large composite yacht & military mine sweeper bottoms, Corecell, with semi-rigid /semi-elastic properties, is a unique product in the industry. Its proprietary qualities include dimensional “memory” & unmatched vibration dampening.
All composite structural components that make up the hull are bonded together using aerospace adhesives that display greater physical properties than the structures that they are joining. As a result, people are astounded by how quiet the Birdsall 30 is in under way. No squeaking, no grinding, no drumming – just the sound of water getting out of your way!
The rigging of each vessel is custom for each individual owner’s requirements. We have no desire to mass produce generic boats for the general market. Birdsall Marine Design’s mission is to produce the highest quality product possible for the most discerning of customers.
