Description
The Saffier SC 6.50 Cruise is a unique craft in North American waters – a high quality, gorgeous Dutch built sloop designed and engineered for safe, spirited sailing in the North Sea. She is pretty! Her flag blue hull, graceful sheer and elegant overhangs fore and aft ride atop a thoroughly modern underbody with bulb keel and balanced elliptical spade rudder. This is a boat one sits in, not on.
The rig features a slightly roached, full-batten mainsail while a self-tacking jib provides more than enough sail area to perform, especially in lighter winds. The self-tacking jib makes easy work of gybing and tacking. She sports a down-wind cruising gennaker on a bowsprit. This provides a very effective way of getting more sail area downwind or on a reach. Because of this rig, the Saffier SC 6.50 Cruise is perfect for single-handing and does not require an experienced crew. With all these modern features, her performance is everything you would expect of a modern, thoughtful cruising design.
KEY FEATURES INCLUDE:
• Beautiful classic lines combined with today’s technology below the waterline.
• A large cockpit layout for six people to sit comfortably.
• Super easy to single-hand and sail by the helmsperson alone.
• Easy setting of the sails, with self-tacking jib and gennaker on a sprit
• A modern rig design combined with a bulb keel.
• A deep spade rudder for excellent performance.
• Stiff and seaworthy, with a ballast to displacement ratio of 44%.
• Quiet electrical propulsion when not sailing.
• Flexiteek teak decking, reduces maintenance while providing great looks.
Technical Specifications:
Hull - Gelcoat is sapphire blue (ral 5004) with white waterline and cove stripe laminated in fiberglass reinforced polyester, 7mm thick from bow to stern, 15mm thick over the keel line. On both sides there is a stainless steel rubbing strake. The keel attachment area is reinforced with roving laminate and has four athwartship beams to distribute the keel forces.
Deck - Sandwich construction, non-skid in deck, laminated with gelcoat and covered in Flexi-teak. On deck, four folding cleats provide a clean, uncluttered deck space. The front deck contains an anchor well with hatch. The aft deck features a hatch with space below to store fenders, mooring lines and other equipment. The furling system of the jib has been recessed beneath the decks to give a clean look to the rig and maximize the efficiency of the jib. Harken self-tailing winches.
Cockpit - A key feature of the Saffier SC 6.50 Cruise is her large, spacious and ergonomic cockpit, with room for six people. This deep, sheltered space feels safe and secure - perfect for your family and friends who want to enjoy a good day of cruising.
Sail-Handling - The ease of single-handing is a key feature of this pocket yacht. From the helm, one can operate all the lines easily in the clean and uncluttered cockpit. Her quiet electrical propulsion system with cockpit controls in easy reach performs smartly. Tiller steering. All sheets, halyards, reefing lines can be operated from the helm. Line holders to stow halyards and other lines are integrated into the cockpit design. In the aft end of the cockpit there is a hatch with easy access to the Torqeedo engine, while the Torqeedo battery, charger and shorepower input reside in the aft lazarette. In the front of the cockpit is the entrance hatch to the cabin. A console, located in front of the cabin entrance, provides space for a log and depthsounder and a magnetic compass.
Interior, Cuddy Cabin - Inside is a cozy, protected space you would not expect from a 6.50 m daysailer. There is room for two people for occasional overnighting with lockable storage of sailing gear, supplies, food, etc.
Keel and Rudder - The keel is a solid lead, modern-shaped race keel with bulb. A balanced, elliptical deep spade rudder with teak tiller and tiller extension. Rudder post is stainless steel and laminated into the rudder.
